Can we make a small alteration in the Guest Activity Page for the greeters?

Is it possible to put a "Flag" on the "Sign in - Sign out" link on the Guest Activity Page that would "Light Up" when the next greeter signs in. This would give the person greeting a more positive indication that the next greeter is ready to go. We used to just hit a few Thank You's to get their attention, but the new system does not have that option,

Hi Bill, Charlotte is correct we greeters always click a few thank you's to let the greeter on duty know we are available to take the feed when it is time for our shift. Also, a lot of us send a quick email to the one greeting to let them know we are starting our shift greeting as well I usually post a note on the sign in page that I am ready to take the feed. This is the way we have always done this. It is just a matter of watching for the multiple thank you's and checking for emails once in a while.
As my Daddy used to say.

"Just because that's the way you've always done it, doesn't necessarily  mean that it's the easiest and/or best way to do it."

I'm just suggesting that the greeters are not consistent, some post, others don't. The idea was to have something consistent that all, including new recruits, can use easily. I do not have a fixed time slot. I find it much easier to "Float around" and pick up the open slots as it fits my day. With the new system I confirm, thank contributors and go on with my merging, sourcing etc. Maybe I am a bit lax, but I pay no attention to the time and half the time my email is turned off.

You sign in, post a note, and send an email. Wouldn't it be quicker to Sign in and push the "Flag" button??

It was just a thought.

There are still "thank you" options on the ones where they left a message. :)

Hi Bill,

It's a good suggestion.  Perhaps the sysops can come up with something similar to the highlight link that appears when a Guest volunteers (for example).

The only problem I foresee with it is that sometimes we edit the information on the Sign In/Out page without actually signing in or out... which would create a "false flag", so to speak.

In the meantime, it might be a good idea to keep your e-mail active when you're greeting?  That way, you'll know right away when someone is trying to get your attention - and you can also let the rest of us know if any issues crop up during your time on the feed.

Thanks for all the filling-in you do, Bill!

I anticipated that response after I posted the question

I envision a double (check) box, one marked YES the other NO, and the question "Notify Current Greeter?" printed above it.

This should be in the section where we sign in / out so it is done before Saving Changes.

I do keep the email on, but I tend to get so many tabs across the top of my screen that it becomes so squashed and small that it doesn't show up. Maybe I'm a bit lazy in that regard, but it is still there if/when I need it.

Bill
Oh, I understand.  I usually have at least 15 or 20 different tabs open myself.

What I've done is set my Gmail account to "pop up" a notification if an e-mail comes through.  That way, I don't miss any messages. (eta : I'm pretty sure you can do it with other mail providers, too; my husband's Yahoo account is always popping up in his browser! :)

I also have a dedicated e-mail address for WikiTree, because I was getting lots and lots of e-mails on my regular account.
