Here are a few ideas for WikiTree activities:

  • Join the Military and War Project. There are sub-projects for The Great War 1914-1918 and other wars.
  • Join the Roll of Honor project.  Add profiles of soldiers who were killed in action, missing in action, prisoners of war, or received the Medal of Honor to WikiTree's Roll of Honor page.
  • Create a new profile or improve an existing profile for a family member who served in the military.
  • Add appropriate military categories to profiles. Add a photo.  Add military-related sources.  Add military-related profile stickers.
  • Join the Military Challenge that was posted today in another G2G post.

I'm working on a book of illustrated stories about local soldiers from my area,. My high school had a program where students would be assigned a Canadian soldier/serviceman/servicewoman from WWI or WWII to research, and then would write a report on them. Taking that a step further, I proposed local artists are each assigned a soldier to create a graphic novel-esque version of the stories, all to be published locally in a collection. Go student initiative!

It's in the works now - hopefully done by next year!

I think the school program was a great idea, and adding the local artists publishing everything in a book is brilliant!  Great work, Gillean!

I just read an article in our local newspaper that a local army group took some extra weight in their backpacks on their morning exercise run.  They
delivered five turkeys to local families for the Thanksgiving Holiday program.  What a way to give back to the community that should be thanking THEM for their service!

What a wonderful thing to do!  Yet another example of selfless service from our veterans.  Thanks for sharing that, Beulah.

We celebrate Veterans Day by remembering family members who served in our armed forces with distinction. One is my wife's father, Vincent Sojat. Vince was on the cruiser USS Honolulu at Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. You can read about Vince in the blog entry, "Day of Infamy" that I placed in his WT biography.

Wow!  That was a great blog post about your father-in-law.  He had amazing presence of mind during a real crisis.
