You may want to consider providing more information as there are probably many people in Philadelphia with the Morton surname.

At familysearch.org , in checking Morton last name in Philadelphia at 20 per page, the first 20 pages yield 400 Mortons.

Do you have a time frame for a birth, marriage and or death year? Is it a man or woman who you are trying to find? Do you have a first name? Is there any information not mentioned that could provide a clue?

Well my first cousin is Stanley Morton. I believe we share great grandparents. The children of the great grandparents of Stanley Morton would be a close tie to either my mother or father. Just recently, I found my mothers name on my OBC. Her name is Susan S Oneal. Still trying to find her and her ties with this family and others.

Stanley Morton died in 1977, but that is all I know.

Robyn,

In addition to what Frank said, you may want to add some extra tags to your question (like "adoption", "Morton", "adoption angels").  That way your question might get the attention of people who are better able to help.

If you can, include a guess about the range of birth dates that might make sense for your mother (if is it your mother you're trying to identify). Can you tell us why you think there might be a connection to the Morton family in Philadelphia?  It might really help in narrowing down a search.

Also, there is a group on Wikitree that specializes in trying to help adoptees find their ancestors: It is   https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Adoption_Angels#Help_for_Adoptees

I hope you are able to make some progress with your search!

Thank You Reba,

I will certainly look into the above options. I  need the help of the Adoption Angels and maybe they can help me find my mother and father.

Thank you so much for your help,

Robin

Robin,

I did a search on Stanley Morton, and may have found your first cousin. (Of course, this is based only on the year of death, but he seems sort of likely, since the site says he was born in Philadelphia County, P.A.   The link is here:

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/29269412/stanley-lee-morton. This Stanley Lee Morton has the following biography on this site:

  • BIRTH 29 Jan 1906 Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA
  • DEATH 27 Aug 1977 Camden, Camden County, New Jersey, USA
  • BURIAL Lakeview Memorial Park  Cinnaminson, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA

Born in Phila, oldest of 7 children of Stanley Lee Morton (1877-1944) and Louise (Gwynn)Morton (1886-1983). Married Florence (Curran) Morton in 1931 at St Anne's Church in Phila. Had one son, Stanley Lee Morton (b. 1932 in Phila). Florence died in 1950 and Stanley remarried to Harriett (Hart) Martin-Morton in Phila in 1951. Harriett died and Stanley married Louise (Held) Schillings-Kissinger in Camden County, NJ.. Stanley worked most of his life in the automobile business, and his last many years were spent as a diagnostic technician.

Do you know enough to decide whether this information could be helpful?

Robin,

The Findagrave profile I mentioned above for Stanley Lee Morton, b. 29 Jan 1906 Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA had links to his parents, and that person's parents for a couple of generations.

So, based on this very possibly fictitious and tenuous connection (the name, year of death, and possible connection to PA), here is a possible lineage based on Stanley Lee Morton  b. 29 January, 1906.

HIS father was also named Stanley Lee Morton, born May 25, 1877 (according to Findagrave).  That Stanley's father (possibly your cousin Stanley Lee's grandfather) was Thomas J. Morton, born in 1833.  Thomas J. can be found on the 1880 US census for Philadelphia, PA along with his wife and family:  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GYBV-9YD?i=12&cc=1417683 .

Thos J Morton Male 46 Married White Engineer Self, born in Massachusetts, father born in  Massachusetts, mother born in Massachusetts,

Catherine A Morton Female 44 Married White Keeping House Wife born in Pennsylvania, Father born in Germany, mother born in Pennsylvania,

The census also lists these children in the family:  William J. Morton, age 10; Washington Morton, age 6; and Stanley L Morton age 3.

So, if any of the above speculation is correct, your great-grandparents were born in Massachusetts.  I'll stop there, since I have no way of knowing whether any of this even applies to your search.

Once again, good luck!

Reba
