what is a gedmatch id? it says on here if I upload results you need to put a gedmatch id number

Your mtDNA would be identical to your mother's maternal line back as far as you are likely to trace the many generations back.

My earliest mtDNA was theoretically traced back to a Mary Clark, 13 generations back, but for a long time I was not sure of the accuracy of my research over that many generations. Someone else with the same mtDNA also traced their line back to Mary Clark, so at that point, I felt it was likely to be a valid DNA connection.

Your DNA result will match you to relatives who have also taken a DNA test and share segments of DNA with you. By analysing your matching segments and the trees of your matches you can begin to identify common ancestors that the DNA has been inherited from.

A gedmatch id is the number you are assigned when you upload your DNA results to gedmatch.com where people who have tested at various companies can collaborate to analyse their results.

thank you. I am waiting for my 23andme results to come in. those are autosomal sp? dna. I am really not sure how to even upload them to here. so I have to also upload them to gedmatch site? I am not to good with computers so hopefully I can figure it out. can I also upload them to my ancestry.com account?

The 23andme test will give you autosomal results with matches and an mtDNA haplogroup. No matches for the mtDNA though. Since you are currently waiting for results you will be on the newest 23andme chip which cannot be uploaded to standard gedmatch. It can be loaded to gedmatch genesis so you will be able to look at matches there, but Wikitree does not accept genesis numbers yet. There have been several recent discussions on G2G about this.
