Mentoring me on entering my ancestry and family search correctly in Wiki

Wiki Help

I am a new member to Wiki. After entering some data, I realized the learning curve was a steep one, thus this question for guidance. At age 76 my short term memory is shot. Further my attention to detail is terrible.

I need assistance to transfer information I have in familysearch.ca and ancestry.ca. The data in the ancestry source was obtained at libraries, as I am not an ancestry,ca member. Under the Wiki method;  do I need to be a member of Ancestry.ca? I noticed familysearch,ca has a link to Wiki; should I follow this path?

Initially,  want to transfer this data so others cannot see. Some of the data was obtained on the condition that it would not be put on line. Once transferred, I need guidance on the simplest most logical way to remove the redundancy from the data, proper referring of sources, assistance in documenting orphan data, etc.

I would consider paying someone to do it, assuming the cost is not prohibitive; or stare the responsibility, assuming I can do the task in a time efficient  manner. I would want someone to check my entries correctness.

I look forward to advise on the questions posed here by knowledgeable Wiki long term members, who can guide me in cleaning up the mess I have created.

Sincerely,

Earle Bain

Earle, I sent you a message to see if I can help get you started.

Hi Earle and Welcome to WikiTree.  As you can already see, there are willing mentors and friendly folks here to help. Wise choice to start asking questions in G2G.

Let me suggest that you edit your request to take your email address out. This forum is open to the public and shouldn't contain personal contact information.

I know Emma will give you the help you need to get started and soon your tree will grow easily.

76 isn't old!

When I started here almost 2 years ago, I also noticed that Wilktree has a steep learning curve.  So I made it my first task to read all of the help files and whenever I was confused to ask a question on G2G.  Of course I still have questions now and then and it doesn't hurt to ask "questions" starting "Did you know that...." And don't be afraid to make mistakes.  Essentially all mistakes can be corrected on WikiTree though sometimes you do have to ask for help.

As to your short term memory being shot, it can't all be gone or you wouldn't be able to write a well thought out request like you did.
