New Project Proposal [closed]

Hello everyone,

In the Wikitree spirit of collaboration it occurs to me we have many different projects that might be pulled together to co-ordinate them and be more effective by combining all their goals under one umbrella.  We would use the already existing resources of our creative minds as shown by Bio Builders, Sourcerers, Profile Improvement, Punctuation, Genealogically Defined, (and I am sure there are others).  The purpose of the umbrella group would be to review profiles who already have biographies and take it to the next level by smoothing the rough edges. Actually they would be proofreaders of sorts for the Wikitree One Tree. We could begin by using profiles labeled "Genealogically Defined" who have Bio Builder biographies to identify the profiles.  Perhaps Profile Managers could contact the umbrella group and request help with the profile. Lots of different ways to go about it.  Now my final suggestion is the new umbrella group be called "Ghost Writers".

Hi Connie,

we have the tool to find profiles that need respect. If we respect our ancestors we will find all sources needed to prove the facts we add, arrange a nice bio, and when possible, find history to make the profile interesting for people who will visit it.

All projects tend in that direction.  And being yourself a member of different projects, you know project members are working very hard to make this happen.

And finally, we have the umprella....  The Team and the Leaders.

I don't think we need another project to overlook what is done.

Good point about the Team and the Leaders being the umbrella Guy. Adding another umbrella project between them and the existing projects can cause confusion.

i read through this and thought, what in heck is the point of this?  You're trying to form a group of elite proofreaders?  I don't get it.

Nothing elitist about it just trying to have a central "go to" place to connect folks to help for writing profile bios.

I didn't say it was elitist.  So you're saying that we need one place where anyone could go to get help writing biographies.  That's not what I got from your original post.

My personal opinion is that our time would be better spent on creating new profiles or adding and sourcing new facts and correcting errors on existing profiles. The quality of the data in the tree is far more important than cosmetics.

you're right about adding and sourcing and yes, quality of data is most important.

I noticed you put the Unsourced Template on lots of profiles.  Why don't you join the Sourcerers project. and help finding sources of quality ?

I have done quite a fair bit of sourcing Guy, including during the Source-a-thon. The unsourced templates I have been adding recently have mainly been as I was browsing through profiles with my family names to get an overview of what is already out there before I start to add my next batch of profiles and tackle some of my brick walls.
