My GGG Grandfather is Franklin B Howell b.1839 d.1914 Signed up for Civil War from Bucks County PA 1862. Married Catherine Force 1866. All the records of him after his marriage include my relatives and are easy to verify, but an 1850 census puts him with William and Elizabeth Vansant (Spelled Vanzant in 1850 and 1870 census) in Bristol PA along with:

William Vansant abt 1812
Elizabeth Vansant abt 1818
Joseph F Vansant b. 23 Jul 1837 d. 26 Apr 1904
-married to Anna E b. 22 Sep 1845 d. 28 Apr 1914
William H Vansant b. 1839 d. 7 Aug 1908
-married to Mary A Force b. 1842 d. 7 Aug 1925
Mary Hannah Vansant b. 1841
-married to S Theodore Green b. 1845 d. 1874
Harvey Vansant b. abt 1849
Caleb Taylor Vansant b. 1852 d. 11 Jul 1877
-married to Ella E Scott b. 1853 d. 1946
John Vansant b. Apr 1857 d. 1921
-married to Elizabeth b. Nov 1862 d. 1914
Theodore Vansant b. 1847
-maybe married to Sara W Walker

I sent away for his marriage certificate and it lists "William and Elizabeth" as his parents, which could be the Vansants he's living with.

I'm interested in how Franklin Howell is related to this household and someone's post has piqued my interest:

Any help or information welcome! Thanks!

So his last name is Howell. And Elizabeth, wife of William Vansant was supposedly a Howell.

There are 19 years between them (Franklin is 12 in 1850; Elizabeth is 31). He *might* be a younger brother-- if so, probably a half brother. Or he might be her nephew, son of a deceased brother. Have you researched the Howells from this town?

He's not living with the Vasant family in 1860. I couldn't find him in 1860.

I can find every census for him except 1860 and 1840.

He inlisted in Company I, Pennsylvania 32nd Infantry Regiment on 20 Mar 1862 from Bucks County PA.
Both Franklin Howell and his wife filed an application for pension based on his civil war service.  Copies are available from National Archives:  Frank B. Howell (died June 11, 1914), Application #560252, widow Application # 1,029,370. (You can find his Pension Index number via Ancestry or Fold3.com).  Their applications may contain supporting affidavits and information about his family.  His widow's application may provide a copy of his death certificate from New Jersey which will also list his parents name. I found an 1860 Census record which shows a "Frank Howell" (age 21 (1839)) living in Philadelphia with Zophia Howell's family. Since Bucks County was mostly rural farmland at that time,  and close to Philadelphia, it makes sense that he would gravitate to the larger city to work before entering the military.  He mustered out of the Army in 1865 and by 1866, according to the church record of his marriage, both he and his bride are listed as living in Burlington, NJ. In 1870, they are living with her parents in Burlington, NJ, and they continued to live in that area until his death in 1914 and her death in 1924.
Thanks for responding!

I did just recieve the complete NARA file on him. Zophar Howell had a son Francis that was listed as Frank on one or more census. Since I've posted the original, I've found Elizabeth Howell's parents and relatives.
