Two of the sons of one of my brickwall ancestors are mentioned in a will, and I'm trying to figure out their exact relationship to the deceased.
On December 6, 1796, Solomon Bobbitt married Honour Wiggins, daughter of Creasey Wiggins. On October 10, 1807, Creasey Wiggins had a will recorded in Franklin County, North Carolina.
I give unto my grandaughter Barbary H. Bobbitt. I bequeath unto my daughter Honour Bobbitt all my interest that I have in the estate of my brother, Samuel Smith (Wiggins) after his death, agreeable to my deceased fathers will. I appoint my two nephews, Abel Douglas and John Douglas as my executors. Creasey Wiggins.
How would you interpret the name "Samuel Smith (Wiggins)" in the citation above? Is Smith the middle name? Could the maiden name of Creasey Wiggins be Smith, and the parenthetical entry is used to define her relationship? The listed nephews are my relatives, so I'm trying to figure out if Creasey might be the sister of Dorcas Smith (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Smith-9210) or if they're related in some other way. Thanks for any help / guesswork on this one! :)
