Can you merge unmerged matches from orphaned profiles?

+2 votes
Whilst working on UK unsourced I've stumbled across a rather large unsourced tree from a GED com in 2010, there is no profile manager. One profile has a merge match proposed in back 2015, can I action this without adopting the profiles attached? I need to merge away the attached into higgenbotham-14.

It may seem odd but I don't want to adopt these profiles at this time as I would have no proper knowledge of the families and they are of no known relation. I don't have the heart to re-orphan them if I did adopt them! It may sound silly but I hate the thought of them being rejected by someone twice.... I just want to clean up & add sources where I can for their potential future researchers?

You would need to change the unmerged match to a merge and wait 30 days or adopt, propose the merge, complete and re-orphan.

I agree with Tess Cameron's answer.  The simplest thing to do is adopt, complete, then teorphan.  Your work benefits the profile.  It is not detrimental to the profile to re-orphan.
