The James Henry Greer I am researching is my paternal gg grandfather. Per census records, he was born in Indiana in 1813, married Elizabeth Smith in Indiana 1837, moved to Iowa, and died there in 1885. After Elizabeth's death, he married Jemima Dodson Lane, a widow. The census records indicate both his parents were born in North Carolina. I would suspect that the family pioneered Indiana during or shortly after the War of 1812. There are few Greers listed in Indiana around 18134. There was Richard Greer who resided in Warrick County and a George Greer. There family histories do not include a James Henry Greer so I am stuck.
