Spouse of my great-uncle Thomas Jefferson Maynard (Maynard-2198)  appears as Mary Ann Elizabeth (Leipbold) Maynard — married 8 Nov 1883 in Ida Grove, Ida, Iowa, United .  Thomas J was actually married to Mary Marshall on 25 Dec 1879 in Dayton, Columbia, WA, USA. How can I delete incorrect marriage info so I can add the correct info?

It is easy to add or remove a spouse:

  1. Open Thomas's profile to edit it.
  2.  On the right side of the profile where it lists family members, scroll down to the Spouses and click on the [add/remove a spouse] link.
  3. To add a spouse, enter Mary Marshall's WikiTree ID and click Go.  If Mary does not yet have a profile, enter the basic data for her then scroll down to click "Add Spouse of Thomas Jefferson Maynard."
  4. To delete Mary Ann Elizabeth (Leipbold) Maynard as a spouse, scroll to the bottom of the page, select her name by clicking the button, then click "Delete Spouse of Thomas Jefferson Maynard."

In this particular case Mary Ann Elizabeth has two husbands and no profile manager. so you have lots of possibilities but probably star's suggestion is the best.  If it were necessary, you could do a merge by adopting her  at least temporarily. I'd suggest before you make the changes, though that you try finding who the various spouses actually do belong to.  That way you will be able to make sure you don't leave someone else a problem to clean up later.  If you have any problems post again and someone will be happy to give you a hand.

Hi Steve, I updated your findagrave link to the new findagrave one

Under the changes tab, you can see that Susan Tye added information on Thomas Maynard's marriage.  Remove the reference for the Iowa marriage a it relates to some other Thomas Maynard, not yours.

Step 2, on Thomas Maynard's profile, go to the spouse's link and remove the wrong spouse.  Click on "add/remove spouse"  At the bottom of the add/remove page, click on the wrong wife's name and then delete spouse.

Step 3.  Make sure any children Thomas Jefferson Maynard has stays with him and doesn't migrate with the spouse being removed.

Step 4.  From familysearch search under Thomas Jefferson Maynard's birthplace and date and his marriage date and place, as there is an 1880, a 1900, and I believe a 1920 Census that needs to be added.

Step 5.  Add his correct wife.  If you don't have the relevant info on her, Thomas J. Maynard's findagrave link has a link to Mary E. Marshall's findagrave link.

Once you added her, go back to the census reports and add them to her profiel.

The way to do it correctly is step by step.

e-mail me if you have problems.

It is the OTHER Thomas Jefferson Maynard who had a brother Esom Washington Maynard who was the first husband of Mary Ann Elizabeth Leipbold. He died in 1882, and his widow married her brother-in-law Thomas the next year. ("Iowa, County Marriages, 1838-1934," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XJ6V-3WC : 27 September 2017), Esom Washington Maynard and Mary Ann Elizabeth Leipbold, 25 Dec 1880, Mapleton, Monona, Iowa, United States; citing reference p5, county courthouses, Iowa; FHL microfilm 1,436,148.)

It appears as though Mary Ann Leipbold needs to be disconnected as a spouse from Thomas Jefferson Maynard. A search for a profile for the correct spouse of Thomas should be made, and if none found, then a new profile created. Likewise, a new profile for the correct Thomas, spouse of Mary Ann Leipbold needs to be created.
