The LDS Project focuses on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, including Mormon founders, LDS Pioneers, the Mormon Battalion, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and prominent members past and present.

This project has several current sub-projects and a few that are being developed.  There are many areas that we can focus on!

If this interests you, post an "answer" below and we'll get you going.

I am very interested in Mormon history since I have learned that my family is deeply rooted in that religion, though I am not. My great grandmother's family were among the first to settle in John's Valley, Utah.

I've added you to the project, Yvonne. Welcome! Have you thought about making a free space page for the blizzard?

Penny, do you have a WikiTree account?

I would like to join this project because My Husband , is of the Mormon Faith. I do a lot of research threw the LDS.
Hi Dawn, is there a particular area of Mormon history that you are interested in? Do you or your husband have any Mormon ancestors?
Until last year I knew nothing about my German family, until I found some newly published records. I now know some of my ancestors moved to the USA and married into very prominant Mormorm familes such as the Brinkhoffer's

Due to wonderful record keeping of the Mormons I now have so many cousins.

On my husbands side I already knew of his Mormon connection thru the Wiggil's.

I am hoping one day to find out we are actually related, very distant cousins.
I'm excited to add my research and my family's records to this project. My great great great grandfather on my dad's side emigrated from Sweden to the US in the 1950s to join the Mormons in Utah. He was a follower of Joseph Morris and left SLC after he was killed. They followed William Davies over to Walla Walla, Washington, where my family still lives.
It sounds like your family has some interesting history, Oliver! Welcome to the project!
I think I fit in this tree. The paper trail I have does not fit. I'm confused and want more info. Dna on file
Hi! I don't have any known LDS relatives, but I'm interested in Mormon history and have been working on adding some profiles on behalf of my friend's family.
Hi, I have just started up work on some of my Pioneer Mormon ancestor profiles and am interested in joining the project. I am a direct descendant of Abraham Reister Wright and David Candland, Sr. and am a Daughter of Utah.

Thank you, Vee

I'm interested in the LDS History Project.
by Michael Lewis G2G6 Mach 1 (12.2k points)
Hi Michael, welcome to the project!

This month we are focusing on the members who joined the church while Joseph Smith was the prophet: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/504825/lds-project-challenge-nov-dec-2017-early-members

If that doesn't interest you, you are free to work on anyone you want. Most people start with their own LDS relatives.

My ancestor David Candland (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Candland-10) was a scribe for Joseph Smith himself. He was converted in London by Brigham Young and immigrated from England to Nauvoo, IL.

I am interested in the LDS history project. I have a number of ancestors who migrated across the plains.  So does my husband.  I don't know how much time I have to work, but if you'll take my little bits, I will happily start working.
by Cindy Van Dam G2G6 (9.3k points)

Hi Cindy, welcome to the project!

Every month we have a challenge where we focus on a specific subject. This month it is people who became members when Joseph Smith was the prophet. https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/504825/lds-project-challenge-nov-dec-2017-early-members

You can also just focus on your ancestors, or anyone else that interests you. Every little bit helps!

I have pioneers in my family lines wee granny Mary Murray Murdoch is my great great great grandmother. I wrote a history on her for the daughters of Utah pioneers chapter I was in Henderson, NV
by Tonya Aghas G2G Crew (590 points)
Hi Tonya, I've added you to the project. A lot of project members like to work on their own LDS family members, but if you ever get bored we have a challenge most months where we work on profiles that fit a theme -- like the Mormon Battalion or LDS Pioneers.

I have several LDS relatives in my family tree. I would welcome the opportunity to improve LDS protected files.

Hi! My father's family were the first to be baptized in Italy in the 1800s. I would love to join this group.
by Kelly Littleton G2G Crew (560 points)
Hi Kelly, welcome to the project! I don't know if I've run across any Mormons from Italy -- do you know of any good sources we could add to the LDS sources page?

Hi Jamie,

I perused the LDS Project page to find the Resources page and discovered that this link is broken:

Is this the resources page that you mentioned? If not, please let me know. Thanks!

I have an interest in the Mormon pioneers and the LDS history project. Some of my ancestors were converted in the early years of the church by LDS pioneers who came to Worcestershire in England. Some of them stayed in England and some travelled to the US and were pioneers.

Hello,

My name is Tim Martin.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and my goal is to fix church records using DNA. I would like to join the group project to better improve my chances if doing this.

Blessings to you.

Is there a particular family or area that you want to focus on?

Hi,

I am related to Charles Twel(l)(v)(e)s who was a Mormon elder in 1851 in Lincolnshire. He went out to Utah and returned other members of his family went out too. He married Anne E H Gunn.

I am a new member and am slowly adding members of the family to the tree

Yes, please, I'm interested.  Where should I begin?  I'm pre-1700 certified.  If I can help during that time period please let me know.

Thank you kindly.

by Paula Reinke G2G6 Pilot (102k points)

Hi Paula, welcome to the project!

A good place to start is your own LDS ancestors / cousins, if you have any.

If you don't have any or want to work on something different, you might want to adopt a pioneer company and make sure that everyone from that company has a profile on WikiTree. They are categorized here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:LDS_Pioneer_Companies, and in the category description there is usually a link to a page at https://history.lds.org/overlandtravel/ where you can see a list of the people who traveled in that company.

Although I am currently an agnostic, I was a Born in the Covenant, Utah Mormon, who served an LDS Mission to the Uruguay Montevideo Mission in the early '80's, when Spencer Kimball was the President. I am especially interested in working on my Scandinavian ancestors, such as Rasmus Julius Smith, who migrated to Utah after converting to Mormonism. BTW, the late Boyd K. Packer's wife, Donna Smith Packer, is my mother's first cousin.

Welcome to the project, William!
Thank you!
I've already asked and been told no, but perhaps you have more pull: Shouldn't there be a Category for Mormon Migrants from Denmark to Utah in the 1800s?

The Smither(s) family joined the LDS church in Casey Co Ky and were run out of the county by the KKK and moved to Owen Co Ky.  There is a marriage between the Smither family and the Smoot family.

I am LDS...,please note that the monikers "LDS" nor "Mormons" aren't used any longer. The church's website is now:

ChurchofJesusChrist.org

I also recommend:  BYU.edu

When time avails, I'd love to help as I have Pioneer ties.
