Queen Elizabeth II, who married her consort at Westminster Abbey on November 20 1947, is the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum wedding anniversary.

Their enduring relationship has lasted the longest of any British sovereign, and Philip has been at the Queen's side throughout the decades, supporting her as she devotes herself to her duties as head of state.

70 years of love for their countries and for each other.   We celebrated them today with pride.

The monarch, who was a 21-year-old princess when she walked up the aisle, is the nation's longest reigning sovereign, having overtaken the record set by Queen Victoria.

Hi Martin,

Yes, I saw that and thought how beautiful to look back at their many years together.   For those of us who were able to witness the Crowning of Elizabeth, it was heartfelt to think that they had been married for 70 yrs.   

For a Princess who had never thought that circumstances would bring her to the throne, she is very admired and adored.
