Does anyone know birth details of Martin Dunphy Born 1800, Kilkenny.

He was transported to Tasmania on board the EDEN 1836.

He married Maria smith in 1849.

They had a son, Charles Octavious  Cassius Dunphy born in Hobart, on 16 Nov 1849 .

Hi Andrew,

I'm afraid I didn't find anything. His marriage record just says 'Full Age.' His death record lists his age as 70, but no birth information. An Ancestry record shows his Pardon. I see his son Charles Birth index. There are three marriages (on Find My Past) in the 1820's in Kilkenny Ireland, but they don't have parents listed: 17 Jan 1820 in Thomastown, Kilkenny, Ireland to Catherine Healy;  4 Feb 1823 in Durrow, Kilkenny to Bridget Fitz Patrick; and 8 Oct 1827 in Gowran, Kilkenny to Mary Kirkey.

Hi Andrew

I have just seen your post. I have been researching Dunphys from Kilkenny. On his convict records your Martin Dunphy said he was born in London, native place Islington and he was a clerk. He said he was married with one child. His wifes name was Helen/Ellen Connell and she was living with her father who was also a clerk in the Barbican, London. There is a marriage for a Martin Dunphy to a Helen Connell on 10 Oct 1824 in St. Luke, Finsbury, London. In the 1841 English Census there is a Helen Dumphy living with a Martin Dumphy, he was aged 14 so would have been born about 1827. He later married a Clara Cripps and they are on the 1851 and 1861 Census. It was common for convicts to remarry in Australia. My own GGGGrandfather remarried, although he had left a pregnant wife and 1 child back in England. Hope this helps
