Looking for help in Virginia

Question

I can't figure out how to use the Library of Virginia site, and I can't get free while the courthouse in Rockbridge is open. I need a copy of birth records for John Andrew Lackey (b. 1851), not to be confused with his cousin, John Frank Lackey also born the same year. I also need a BC for Martha Hamilton Wandless (b. 1962). Any death cert would be a bonus, as they divorced before 1910, and I can't find when they died.

If you go to the lva.gov website, select “For the Public”, choose “Search the LVA Catalog”, enter a surname and you will see selections.  From those, some will say view online and take you to original digitized records.  

Also, after you select “For the Public”, you will see several tabs to choose from.  Images and Indexes is also a good choice.  Enter surname and choose a category from the really wide slot with the three dots.  Go in and  see what is available to look at.  

Sometimes if there is no image, I just print out the screen with the info.

There is a lot available there.  Don’t be afraid to play with the tabs, and the A to Z collections.

Why not telephone them and discuss what information you are looking for?

They're open from 9 A until 5 PM daily and Saturday.

Telephone number is 804-692-3500 it says use relay 711, but I don't know what that means.

Found his birth year and month, but not the day of the month at familysearch.org .
