Canada Census, 1921

Hi All,

Having just started on a Canadian branch of my family, I've just recently begun looking at the Canada census.  The latest I find is 1916, but I've just seen this:

"Under the legislation [the Statistics Act], the records will be opened for public use and transferred to Library and Archives Canada 92 calendar years after the taking of a census."

That would mean Canada 1921 should be available this year.  Anyone know anything about this?

Amazingly, after looking forward to it for so long, I haven't even used it yet. I guess I just haven't been working on the right branches of my family. :)

I know it's available on Ancestry, but I think a subscription is required. I haven't seen it up for free anywhere yet. Right now Library and Archives Canada just has a link to it on Ancestry, but hopefully they'll have it on their own site soon!

on ancestry.ca    the inscription is free and the census is free of charge,

a lot of error on the reading and writing names.  for example     Alexis Albert

the writing seems to be alicia and the wriing  list done Alicia as a man. But, I know him, he was a cousin of my father. his name is Alexis.

Lantin  seems to be  Lautin, Montmagy,  Monmani

Thank you, Lianne and Robert.

Robert, I'm not surprised there are errors.  I'm used to the U.S. census, which is awful.  You always hope you find better sources because names and spellings on our census are very unreliable.  I have seen at least one incidence where a child was shown as the wrong gender.

Yes access to the 1921 Census of Canada through Ancestry.com is currently free (AFAIK free registration with ancestry is however required). The decision to release it this way got alot of reaction, much of it negative.

What I am not clear on is if that access is free 'forever', or a free for a "limited time".

The last time I looked it had been mostly indexed and was searchable. Initially, it had been images only.
