Emanuel Jenkin Betancor was a Portuguese sailor who lived, worked, married and died in Melbourne, Australia.

He worked as a ferry driver in Melbourne. He lived in Emerald Hill in Melbourne.

His death certificate gave scant facts - from Portugal. No parents were listed. He was 51 years when he died of a disease to the stomach and had lived in the Australian colony for more than 17 years - some years in South Australia and 17 years in Victoria.

He married Agnes McGill (McKill) when he was 27 years old. They had at least 11 children. I have found birth registrations for the children but not for a marriage.

His widow, Agnes, married another Portuguese sailor one year later and his name was Francisco Perry Bettencurt. A similar surname - maybe a cousin???

I would like to find out where in Portugal he came from, which ship he arrived on and if there is a family relationship between Betancor and Bettencurt.
