The Downs Family NOT of Virginia, Ohio, & Indiana

Wondering that, if in your research, you might have come across my G-G-Grandfather JOHN DOWNS b. abt 1815/18 and m. in Preble Co., OH a Mary Sackman b. abt 1831.  JOHN A. "Pete" DOWNS ‚Äč(John Samuel, Clarence Lester, James M., John).  My DOWNS lineage does not appear to ever emerge from &/or merge with the William Downs clan or his ancestors that settled in Tippecanoe Co., IN., abt 1843. So, I'm thinking/looking my lineage must point toward a DOWNS immigrant of  New England landing, then later, Ohio. Thank you in advance - any clue would be appreciated for I am at a dead end.

Have you done any cross checking at the One Name study on DOWNS?  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Downs_Name_Study

Hi Pete, I noticed that your first couple generations at least didn't have any census info attached to their profiles. I think I found this family in the 1880 census. The John Downs in Marion, Boone, Indiana lists his birthdate as 1815 and his birth place as Indiana. Granted, I don't know much about the history of Indiana, but that would seem to mean that he was born in that state shortly after Euro-American settlers began arriving in any real numbers.
