This is the marriage certificate of my 4th Great Grandfather Thos. J. Haggard to Martha Metcalf on January 19th 1867 in Carroll, Kentucky. The only thing on it other than their names is in the remarks where is says "See affidavit of McDowell & Meade." Anyone know what the heck that means?

Most likely there is a separate marriage bond. Either she was underage, or they needed proof that one of them was actually divorced. The underage marriage bond I see a lot in Kentucky records.

Thank you. That makes a lot of sense. Any chance you can point me in the right direction for where to track something like that down?

Carroll County genealogy resources. I'm not at home lol so I hope that helps. The county still holds those in marriage books, but it's not always the same book as the actual marriage
