I wanted to share this family photo of Marion Ferrel with the community. Marion was born in Indiana in 1836 and grew up in Iowa. He fought with the 10th Regiment, Iowa Infantry in the Civil War and participated in many campaigns including the Battles of Chattanooga, Siege of Vicksburg, Siege of Savannah and Sherman’s March to the Sea. His regiment was present in Washington DC for the Grand Review of the Armies. After the war Marion moved to California and was a builder in Los Angeles. He died at a veteran's home in 1919. Historical records say that upon his death he still carried the bullet that struck him in battle in 1863.
