Trying to trace the birth of Elizabeth Tanner, born in 1833 and was the wife of George Matthew Hale.

I found her obituary on trove: 1903 'Family Notices', The Argus (Melbourne, Vic. : 1848 - 1957), 20 January, p. 1. , viewed 08 Dec 2017, http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article9815545

I recognise the reference to Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria Australia (as her son, also named George Matthew Hale was born there in 1858), but the obituary also lists Newark, New Jersey USA and I have no knowledge of American sources or where to check to see if she was born there as I'm Australian and most of my ancestors came from Australia itself or England.

Thankyou for that. Wondered why I couldn't pull a marriage up in Victoria, Australia. They married in Minchinhampton, moved to Australia shortly after, had 2 children in Victoria then decided to move back to Minchinhampton. That explains a lot. George Matthew Hale (the Son) ended up marrying a Sarah Kemsley and their son, Henry Kemsley Hale moved into Australia via QLD, marrying in NSW and moving back to Qld shortly before his death in 1954. Oddly enough his mother Sarah Hale (Kemsley) did I move to Melbourne Victoria where her husband George Matthew Hale (jnr) was born and has a registered death. Very interesting family.
