Question

hi im trying to find my nans side of the family i have very little info iv tryed most sites with no joy and im not very good with computers. The information i have got is .

Janet B C Melrose born in Edinbough Scotland 1913 had 2 or 3 sisters the only names i have is Nan and Rita, i dont no there parents names . My nan married a Thomas Henry Pateman in west sussex UK, and must of returned to Scotland were my mum Margaret Janet Pateman was born in May 1942 and her sister Shelia H Pateman [ sorry no date birth]. were born in Edinbough, then i dont no what year returned to West Sussex uk.

If you could in anyway shed some light on the Melrose side of the family you make my day and put my mind at rest.

hi kerry, I'm not a member of http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ so I cannot view records, but I can confirm that they have a record for Janet B Melrose born in Scotland (not Edinburgh) in 1913.  Maybe somebody else with membership may be able to help you or you might consider joining yourself as you appear to have Scottish ancestry.

Janet's marriage to Thomas in Q1, 1940 is visible in the UK BMD (http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl) and it appears that Thomas was married at least once previously (possibly twice).  See records below (you can order certificates from the GRO (online or mail) using the Reg.
