Why does the search engine lie?

After running a search, I added Christopher Fowler born 1688 and died 1793. Then I tried to add his father  Henry Fowler III (his father) with the same result. In each case the database said they did not exist

There seems to be a problem. In the past I have added an individual (after running a search) then after a few days I would receive a merge notice of the same people I had added.

1 - Are you sure those dates are correct? (1688 - 1793). That would make him 105 years old when he died. Very unusual for that time period.

2 - I see the profile was just created today. Usually it can take up to 24 hours for new profiles to be added and connected to the tree. I'm surprised this one was done so fast!!

Christopher Fowler born about 1662 [[Fowler-6556]] is listed as the son of Henry Fowler III, not [[Fowler-8050]].  Joseph Williams is the PM for both [[Fowler-6566]] and [[Fowler-8050]].  So Fowler-6556 comes up with Henry Fowler III attached as father and not the latter profile, Fowler-8050.

I'm wondering if what's already in wikitree means that Fowler-8050 is the son of Fowler-6556; hence, the grandson of Henry Fowler III.  The dates fit better.

I've found your Christopher Fowler (born 1688) and another Christopher Fowler (born about 1662), both managed by you, on the search engine.  The 1688 just went in a few minutes ago.  It takes a little time for the search engine to pick new profiles up.

Henry Fowler III is attached to Fowler-6556 (Christopher born 1662).  I presume your other Christopher Fowler [[Fowler-8050]], born 1688 is the grandson of Henry as Henry died before Fowler-8050 was born.

I'm not wikitree tech, but I did find Christopher.  Henry Fowler III was already in the wikitree database and his profile is managed by another party.   You did fix his status indicators, however.  His profile also comes up in wikitree search.
