This question follows an earlier question from today, the answer to which I have pondered upon for sometime.

On completion of a merge, is the total number of profiles on Wikitree reduced accordingly?

Yes, it is. Just as it is increased when a duplicate is created. The number of profiles found on the WikiTree home page is the net number.
