Could WikiTree be a little smarter when sorting marriages?

Anna (Greeff) WIlliams died in about 1829, based on the birth date of her last child and the known date (1831) of the second marriage of her widower. On the list of her husband's spouses, she appeared second, possibly because of alphabetic reasons. From that I deduce that WikiTree does not take into account the date of death of spouses when sorting marriages.

There are of course workarounds for this, and in this case I had the date of death as the date of the end of the marriage. On her profile it looks unnecessary, so some kind colleague removed it. I have now put in "before 1813" as the date of the first marriage, and hope that this will be tolerated.

But it would be nicer if WikiTree software could check spouses' death dates when sorting marriages.

Surely the sensible sort date would be the actual date of marriage (and if no marriage date then the birth of the first child). This would automatically sort out precedence for multiple (cultures allowing more than one wife) mariages and any other relationships - potentially allow for handling affairs and other complications too.

One of the many record checks could be if a person dies to populate the end marriage date field with the death date - unless it already holds an earlier date

Never mind this profile, the issue in the title of the question is the point I wish to raise on G2G.

I too write software for genealogical reports, and I know that sorting marriages chronologically is difficult because one does not always have enough information. There are gray areas.

Nevertheless, a woman known to have died before another woman married the same man should not be listed as being a later spouse.

Hi Dick,

I can add it as something to look into for our next round of marriage updates.  Thanks!
