Proposal: a template for Dutch grave website 'Online Begraafplaatsen'

Question

We have a template for FindAGrave, which is a great solution in case the FAG URL is reformatted in the future.

There is a similar website for Dutch graves, called Online Begraafplaatsen. The site offers transcribed names and dates taken from the tombstones, and often pictures of the tombstones, but no biographies or links to relatives like on FAG.

Graves have an ID number in the URL, just like FAG, so the existing FAG template format can be used here too, with only minor changes.

I have been looking if it was possible, but it's a Source template and it says: 

Source templates for formatting, e.g. Template:EE_citation, are not recommended. New templates for source formatting should not be created and existing ones should not be added to new profiles. Ideally, the existing ones would be removed from where they have been used in the past, but this is not a priority.

Source templates for using the same source on multiple profiles — what could be called "source shortcut templates", e.g. Template:DGFA-1 — are not officially recommended but they are not officially recommended against. Continuing to use them is not a violation of the style guide, but they should be used with great care. It is possible that they will be officially recommended against in the future, or officially recommended.

So I can ask if it's ok but looking at what it says, I think the answer will be no and because it's possible these templates are going to be removed from all profiles again in future, I don't think it's wise to create one ..the Findagrave one is also a Source template...

I think we can wait a bit and see what's decided about the Findagrave one, found this G2G where it says Findagrave is more an external link template and that perhaps it will approved...

Thanks Bea, I hadn't realized that. I agree, let's wait until a final decision has been made about FAG and the general policy on source/external link templates.

Either way, there should probably be a note on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Template:FindAGrave explaining that its use is currently not recommended, to warn members like me, who are not aware of this. I'll stop using them for the time being.

Me neither and I guess there are thousands of profiles now that have this template or find a grave added as source, I have asked already if something is decided or if they are working on it, so we will see :)

There is 50000 of profiles using it with few thousands added each week.

It is also looked ower by me, suggestions added for improper usage.

Those comments were written before EditBot times. Now if there will be a need I can change template usage to any new standard.

But source and external link template is the last template group, that needs review. The team moves lately towards external link templates, that would ease the problems of URL changes. And other info should be transcribed next to template. Simmilar to FindAGrave template. We also discussed templates for other mayor sites. I think only sites with thousands of links should have templates, since there is a lot of work maintaining such templates (monitoring its usage).

Hi Lennart,

I love online-begraafplaatsen and use it a lot. But I am sorry as I am not a leader. I will bring it to the attention though to those who might be able.

 

Answers are slow at the DRP. I am sorry but I think many are busy on the days before the holidays.

Hi Lennart,

I'll ask if it's ok to create a template for Online begraafplaatsen also, and if it's ok I'll ask Jan if he can help create one for us, I can create a basic template or sticker, but this one is a bit different, so I think I need some help ;)
