Do you have a collection of postcards, stamps or photos to share as E-Cards?

The new E-Card works great and is a nice way to introduce family or friends to Wikitree.  “Here is a picture of grandpa’s home town.”  or “Here is a picture of Aunt Silly in that French Maid costume.”

While E-cards and photos have different names, in Wikitree they are handled exactly the same.  If you have a photo or card that belongs with a profile it should be uploaded with the photos for that profile.  If there are several people in the photo, add their ID to the photo and the photo will appear in all of the profiles.  There are many E-card categories to choose from.  They are here.  Many cards or photos belong in multiple categories.

If you have a collection of cards or photos that have value as a collection, they can be uploaded as photos in a Free Space Profile.  Then they can be linked to as many IDs as you wish.

While it is not possible to upload a photo to a category page, it is possible to display a photo or card.  Here is an example that has two photos, one from a Free Space and one from a regular profile.  Select edit to look at the code.

If you have a few photos for States, Towns, Battlefields, Cemeteries or Forts Camps or Bases that you would like to include on a category page there are some open Free Space Profiles here that can be used by anyone.

Mmm... I actually have a collection of early 20th century postcards that my family members sent to each other. Mm.... food for thought...
You're the best, Phil.

Jillaine, you must keep forgetting that you only have 24 hours in a day.
Clearly, I keep forgetting that. ;-)
Once I get a new scanner I'll add some stuff

Thanks for setting up those pages Phil! I love E-cards. I think they are a great way to share the WikiTree/Family History love. I hope lots of people use them from now on.

Eowyn,

They are great.

Like so many things at Wiki Chris started this, the entire E-cards idea is his - all I did was use his examples and added some more - what Wikitree is all about.

Now - how to we add stamps for other countries?  Be nice to send an Australian E-Card with an Australian stamp.  Or one from South Africa ...

or ....a French Post Card (well maybe not)...
Thank you, Phil!

We can add more stamps -- if you have them to scan -- but I'm not entirely sure we want to. Part of me thinks that the stamp selection slows people down. Maybe we should have fewer choices instead of more. I suppose the first thing we should do is make one the default. That way people can skip the step if they want to.
I have LOTS of foreign stamps that I collected as a kid.  I'll see if I have any good specimens that I could scan.

I have collected old postcards for over 30 years, have thousands, but no scanner at the moment, I can probably do it at some point, a lot of them ar real photos of families.

Hi Richard. Sounds like a daunting, but worthwhile, project! I find scanning images can be really time-consuming. Part of it is that you can get caught up in post-scan editing. But it's well worth doing. If they're not scanned, they may be lost forever.
