I was entering John Scarborough's father John Scarborough that is in my family tree and got to the point where close matches came up. There were two and I am certain both are the John Scarborough I was entering. So I won't enter because that would become a third John Scarborough.

I have sent a message to

And the other match which I am sure is a true match is

I just started on WikiTrees today and I am not sure how to proceed. I should also note that I recently had a Pro genealogist certify the Scarborough line of my tree.

Thanks for the help!

Welcome aboard, Louise!

I recommend that you add a Research Note to your John Scarborough's profile so that you can keep track of the other 2 profiles.

You may even want to attach one of them as your John's father, as you seem certain of the connection.

And if you are feeling bold, propose a merge of the 2 profiles! Be sure to review Direction of a merge first, since the 2 profiles have different spellings for the Last Name at Birth.

Hi Louann!  The best way to get rid of the duplicates would be to propose a merge of them.  Anyone can propose a merge of a profile.  If you scroll down to the bottom of the profile, you will see three categories....rejected matches, pending matches and unmerged matches.  Under the pending merges, it says "initiate a merge".  That's where it will take you step by step to start the merge.  Most times, you won't be able to complete the merge because you are not on the trusted list of either profile.  But, you can still set up the pending merge so that they are notified that someone sees they are duplicates.  They will have 30 days to respond.  If neither accept the initiated merge, it will be approved by default and then anyone can do the merge after that point.  Sometimes you will have someone reject the merge.  That's when you need to start communicating with the PM and hopefully they are just as eager as you to get things right.  Hope that helps and good luck with your genealogy here on Wiki Tree!!!
