My Schmidts came from Trier, Germany, leaving there in 1836, and arriving at their final destination in Illinois, above Chicago in 1839, where the family cabin is a national monument being the first homestead in that area. They (descendants) remained in the vicinity for quite some time, & in the Evanston, & Chicago area. My 3x great grandfather Peter Schmidt came with his 4 remaining children, from his first wife who died in Germany, his second wife was named Magdalena, and they were married by the time he reached Illinois or shortly there after. His youngest child a boy also named Peter had about 10 children and one of them was named after his stepmother Magdalena. You can see all this info on my page by following my fathers; mothers; line.
