I have been looking for the parents of my Great Grandfather, Russell Sermons, for years. He was raised by Frank and Cornelia Carter of Mershon, Georgia. He married my Great Grandmother, Norma Jean Scheikofsky, not sure of the date of marriage, but there's a record of divorce in 1954.
There's records of him being in the Army from October 17, 1945 to March 27, 1947. There's also records of him living in McPherson, Kansas from 1948 to 1950 when my Uncle Rick and Grandmother Cristy were born. Residence in 1951 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas; 1952 back in McPherson, Kansas; 1960 in Jacksonville, Florida. He then disappears from records until his death in 1988 in Houston, Texas at the age of 63.
According to his social security he was born in Tampa, Florida, on February 22, 1925. According to the only possible census records I have found of him as a child, listed him in in Berrien County, Georgia in 1930. A Lorene Sirmans listed as his mother. I've found a Lorraine Grace Fountain on Ancestry, but I just cannot find any more information on Russell linking the two.
I am looking for possible ways of getting the obituary, much less any other records that could assist me. Of course it'd be great if any of this information would jog someone's memory on here! I hope I've went about this the correct way. I'd not ask, if not for this brickwall, the alternative is to pay a professional at this point.
