Parents of Russell Sermons

+3 votes
I have been looking for the parents of my Great Grandfather, Russell Sermons, for years. He was raised by Frank and Cornelia Carter of Mershon, Georgia. He married my Great Grandmother, Norma Jean Scheikofsky, not sure of the date of marriage, but there's a record of divorce in 1954.

There's records of him being in the Army from October 17, 1945 to March 27, 1947. There's also records of him living in McPherson, Kansas from 1948 to 1950 when my Uncle Rick and Grandmother Cristy were born. Residence in 1951 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas; 1952 back in McPherson, Kansas; 1960 in Jacksonville, Florida. He then disappears from records until his death in 1988 in Houston, Texas at the age of 63.

According to his social security he was born in Tampa, Florida, on February 22, 1925. According to the only possible census records I have found of him as a child, listed him in in Berrien County, Georgia in 1930. A Lorene Sirmans listed as his mother. I've found a Lorraine Grace Fountain on Ancestry, but I just cannot find any more information on Russell linking the two.

I am looking for possible ways of getting the obituary, much less any other records that could assist me. Of course it'd be great if any of this information would jog someone's memory on here! I hope I've went about this the correct way. I'd not ask, if not for this brickwall, the alternative is to pay a professional at this point.

Robbie, I've sent you a private message but I wanted to post this link to the 1920 census with Hardeman Sirmans and his 15 year old wife, Lorene. 1920 Census

Hardy has remarried (Malinda C) in 1940 and is in Cook County, Georgia with 3 of the children from the 1930 census.  His findagrave memorial Hardeman Vernon "Hard" Sirmans has the names of two wives attached.

Good luck with your search and welcome to WikiTree.

+5 votes has good resources to check, if you haven't done so:

Note his, presumably, second wife's grave that's connected above.

Not sure if the above link is correct, but might be a match.

All the above is probably not new, but it's a start. It would be good if you could more sources like this on his profile, and / or open it up so other people can collaborate. That way we're not all doing the same research over again.

Thank you, Eric for suggesting another website! I do have all this information on Ancestry. I've been slowly moving stuff over from Ancestry, I've just now added him on here in the last couple of days, thankfully it's rained so I'm not so swamped with work. I'll have everything moved over shortly, hopefully! Thanks again for suggesting the familysearch and trying to do some legwork for me! I definitely appreciate it! Hopefully this site will provide a breakthrough.
