There are two Elijah Perkins on the 1840 Census of Cass County,GA,according to Ancestry.com. Some one corrected an Elijah Perkins to be an Elijah Pickens. On the 1850 Census of Cass County,Georgia, my third Great Grandfather Elijah Littleton Perkins is age 25, born North Carolina, and he appears just below his mother Nancy Perkins, age 70, born North Carolina, who has two daughters Mary, age 36,born North Carolina and Emeline, age 34,living with her.
An Elijah Perkins appears as a private in Berry W. Gideon's Mounted Volunteers in 1837 with the responsibly of protecting the Cherokee Indians. I know men grew up fast on the frontier, but I don't believe this Elijah Perkins could have been my Elijah Littleton Perkins. I am just getting started on researching the parents of Elijah Littleton Perkins. If Elijah was the name of Elijah Littleton's Perkins father he would have been about the same age as his wife Nancy born in 1780,probably North Carolina. Someone at Ancestry.com has Elijah Perkins as a son of John Perkins(1735-1797) and an Affiah Poyner. They have his wife as Nancy Wright. There is an Elijah Perkins in Camden County,NC and an Elijah Perkins in Burke County,NC in NC.
If I am thinking that the Elijah Perkins on the 1840 census of Cass County,Georgia was Elijah Perkins and not Elijah Pickens. If someone who has Ancestry.Com could check out Elijah Perkins(Elijah Pickens) it would be greatly appreciated. I would like to Nancy Perkins maiden name if posssible and where these Perkins lived in North Carolina.
Thanks Tom Stephenson
