I finally found out a long-sought after mystery. My great-great grandfather, Oscar Clyde Vallery (1878-1956), was illegitimate. I knew who his mother was - Mary Ann Charon. But no one knew who his father was and the guesses as to just WHO the father was were rampant - stories about it being men named Frank, Jean Baptiste, Benoist, and Denny Vallery. It didn't help matters that I matched by DNA the descendants of both Benoist AND Denny Vallery, making me that much more confused. But all were proved wrong when I stumbled across a marriage license filled out by the man himself, Oscar Clyde Vallery. He listed a man named Victor Vallery as his father. The marriage license was from 1915 and had him listed as "dead" by that time. Now I've done some research and I've come to the conclusion that Lucien Victor Vallery was the father. Oscar was said to have a half-sister (Lucien only had one daughter, possibly one other though that may have died young) AND I matched through DNA, one of Lucien Victor's descendants. I know who Lucien married, his children's names and birthdates, who his parents were and his birth date. But I don't know anything more about Lucien. I've never seen a picture of him - if one even exists - and I don't know when he died. I don't even know what his occupation was.
Since this man is my great-great-great grandfather, I would LOVE to know more about him if anyone can help me find out more.
