I'm including some poetry in a free-space profile. Is there a way to format it so that the lines don't run together?

Hi,

Simple answer is yes.

If you want to align the text to the left margin of the page use before the first line of the text.

<div style="text-align: left;">

If you want the text to align in the middle of the page use before the first line of the text

<div style="text-align: center;">

Wonderful. Thanks!
My pleasure, I forgot to add the following link it's to the help section on formatting text.

Thanks again. I'll take a look.

Include before your poem

<poem>

and after it

</poem>

You can also end each line with <br/>

Thanks. Now let's see if I can make it work. New to formatting....obviously!
W all have to start sometime :) Hope it turns out ok for you.
It did! Thanks again.
You can also start each line with a ":" and that will serve as a break and indent the line a bit.

Laurie,

I used the poem from the inside front cover and threw together a quick sample of ideas that you can toy around with. For example drop caps (in colours inspired by the marbled paper ;) ) using em dash and em space. And using the break tag <br /> to seperate lines but keep the verses together.

Below the poem I have reproduced the first paragraph so if you like you can copy the code I used and go from there.

I love this! I'll give it a whirl. Thanks so much.
Rob: I've worked with many a designer in my day as an editor and never knew how demanding it was. My designer friends are having a good chuckle right now. I didn't attempt the multi-colours, but I think the red drop caps look great. Hopefully Ann Eliza would approve! Thanks again, L.
Glad I could offer something useful. If I might make a small suggestion, consider adding some blank space between the verses of the poem.

I have been busy adding a lot more content to the tweaks page.

Regards,
I wondered about that, but thought I'd leave well enough alone. I asked the hubby for advice. He apologizes to you, saying he's cheating and that a purist would object, but his code seemed to work. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'll look into your tweaks page. The pages are a little plain at the moment, so it will be nice to dress them up.
