Census records are not publicly available after 1940 unless the state ran a census after that (ie New York had a state census in 1945). The 1950 census data will be released in 2022 as the federal government seals census data for 72 years. If your ancestors were married after the census date in 1940 (exact date varies by area), then no census data is available.
You can request census records for individual family members if you know where they lived. There are forms to fill out and there is a fee. See The National Archives for more information.
