Please use the new thread at https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/639280/your-family-part-history-please-post-here-join-history-project

The United States History Project and its myriad sub-projects cover the people, places, and events through time in the geographic region that we know today as the United States of America. See the US History Project page for information on our scope of activity, our sub-projects, and some related projects.

If you are a WikiTree member who would like to help improve profiles and other WikiTree content in one or more of the US History sub-projects, please:

  1. Introduce yourself by answering this post. (Please post an answer, not a comment.) Tell us about your interests in US history -- and how you intend to contribute -- and we will get you a US History badge.
  2. Add us_history to your followed tags, as well as tags for any specific states or special topics that you are focusing on.

Please be sure to check out our project page for links to the various sub-projects you might want to join. Note that several other specialized US-related projects, such as US Southern Colonies, Mayflower, Puritan Great Migration, and the 1776 Project, have their own badges separate from this one. You don't also need to join the US History project to participate in one of those projects, but most of us work on multiple topics and may want to be in more than one project.

Thank you!

Please post your request to join us as an answer, not a comment. Comments are liable to get overlooked!

I am interested in joining. My wife and I have ancestors from the revolutionary war, civil war and WWIi. In addition family lore has her ancestors coming over with Lewis and Clark. I can also trace one route to Plymouth circa 1580.
My main interest and much of my family genealogy is relative to the Missouri / Louisana Territory prior to statehood in 1821.  I also have done research for genealogy in Massachusetts, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Missouri, Delaware, Rhode Island, California.  I also have, as most do, several generations of military from before the Revolutionary War and serving in many major wars through Viet Nam.
Hi. I am very interested in joining these projects. Both my fathers parents lines are from the puritan wars. Were generals for the british amreicana Malisha.  My mothers lines neing Prussian-Swabian, are from american history as well. I have family pics ide like to add. Info on migrations from many orange, and Hillsborough counties, and from wilson farms.. and so on. Thankyou for your time.
I am interested in joining the US History project.  I have not done any work for Wiki but have done much research for historic Woodland Cemetery, in Des Moines, Iowa. I think I can make a useful contribution there.

I am a member of DAR, GSMD & Colonial Dames, and am passionate about researching my family & American history generally back to colonial times. Des Moines history and historic preservation are my community engagement.
Wow, glad to meet all of you. Brian, Laurie, and Laura now have the project badge. Welcome to the project!

Alexander wasn't logged in to WikiTree, so he can't be added to the project. If you are a WikiTree member, please supply your user ID.
Could you add a sub category to Oklahoma Research Assistant of Oklahoma City, OK? I live in the Oklahoma City area and am willing to help with resources here. I don’t know how to create a sub category.

Hi, Angelique. I created the Oklahoma City Research Assistance category (FINALLY, you say!). You can add your personal profile to the category by adding [[Category: Oklahoma City Research Assistance]] to your profile, if you'd like, and you should edit the category description to include a link to your profile and indicate what you are available to do. Some examples of Research Assistance categories with descriptions (in addition to the Oklahoma state category) are https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Maryland_Research_Assistance and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Pittsburgh_Research_Assistance . (You may be aware of other examples.)

Hi Ellen,

You can count me in. I am already listed as the coordinator for one of your subs - United States Immigration Project. I may reach out to you personally for a few questions as well.
Just checking in to US_history.

I am a Texas native and completed the 254 counties of Texas..  The project will never be completely finished as there will always be more United States history to find for the counties.

Also wrote the counties of South Carolina and learned a lot while working on them.. I am currently working on Georgia counties and Colorado counties..(we had a cabin in Colorado, so love the area as well.  More to learn and info to find.
Wow, Mary -- those one-place study pages for Texas counties are impressive. I was surprised to find that they weren't linked to the county categories. Is that because the category link in the one-place study template is no longer working properly?
Are we having problems with the templates again?

They were changed before Abby left.  So if they did change again, Ellen, could you please get us the new thing to use?
Which templates are you referring to, Lynette?

The ones you are talking about

"Wow, Mary -- those one-place study pages for Texas counties are impressive. I was surprised to find that they weren't linked to the county categories. Is that because the category link in the one-place study template is no longer working properly?"

Hi Ellen and Lynette

Sorry this took me a while to see your question.  Yes the one place study template does not create the categories..  I have to do them manually.  I have about 50 counties to go to complete all..   It does usually add the one place study category (notice I said usually)

Would like to join US History. I have a lot of ancestors that came over to early Pennsylvania. I love to hunt thru records.  Pretty new to Wikitree, though I have been doing Gen. for years. Have transcribed records for 1940 census, death records, ships, etc. Also helped with some history books.  Thanks Terry McClintock-715
Welcome to this project, Terry! I may want to ask you for early Pennsylvania research help...
Hi Ellen, Is there anyplace where people list books people have? Many are probably online now, but I have a few for the Pennsylvania and Ohio area, that I would do look ups for. Years ago I did many look ups, before we got so digital, but with some of the pay sites, some may find it helpful. These were my mothers books.

Hmm... Some people post that info in G2G, which is difficult to search, but where the info might be findable... We also have Source pages that list places where a book is available online, but don't include  lists of "these members will do lookups for you."

I think we could use some free-space pages for state projects, one-name studies, etc., where members could tell what research materials they are willing to share. Some such pages might exist (I need to look around!).

Terry, you can make a free space page and put a link to it on your profile or... I have started transcribing several PD PDF books, sometimes converting PDF to text isn't easy. Sometimes its a charm.

If you need assistance with a free page, I'd be delighted help.  I also transcribe census.
I would like to join this group. I have been doing genealogy for over 20 years, but am very new to wikitree and its all quite new to me. Currently I am working on a biography of my ancestor, Timothy Church (Church-1738) who was born Hadley, MA and moved to Brattleboro, Cumberland Co, NY, later Windham, VT. In the French and Indian War, he served as a private in the 1759 Crown Point expedition, Capt. Salah Bernard's Co, Timothy Ruggles Reg, under Gen. Amherst and witnessed when French Capt. Hébécourt blew up Ft. Carillon. In 1777, he fought at Saratoga as an 1st Lt. in Capt. John Sergeant's company, Col. Schuyler's Regiment in Gen. Abraham Ten Broeck's New York militia, saw Arnold's charge on October 17, 1777 and later witnessed Gen. John Burgoyne's surrender to Gen. Gates. Later Timothy Church was a "Vermont Sufferer" and was heavily involved in the conflict between NY Gov. George Clinton and the "Pretend State of Vermont" and spent time in prison for supporting the Yorker cause. For his service, he was granted by George Clinton and the New York legislature, 3840 acres in Chenango Co, NY.

I am very interested in early Hadley, MA history (as well as Amherst, Hatfield and Hardwick), French and Indian War, The American Revolutionary War, the History of Brattleboro (the Vermont Conflict), and the early history of Chenango and Broome Counties, NY.

Also I am interested in antebellum Western North Carolina, specifically Macon and Jackson counties.

I am am member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans of the Civil War, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, Sons of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society.

Sourcing is hugely important for me, especially original sources, deeds, probate, court records, pensions etc...One of the reasons why I got into genealogy is because I wanted to know the truth about my personal history. To know the "truth" information mus be sourced. What I like about Ancestry is the ease at which sourcing a fact can be made. I wish it was the same with Wikitree, perhaps it will be in the future.

On last thing, my ultimate goal is to find/prove a "gateway ancestor". So far this has been most elusive

We meet again, Nathan! Thanks for sharing those stories of your ancestors and your wide-ranging interests. You have the project badge now. I look forward to seeing you around WikiTree in the future. (And I'm wondering if your Hadley, Mass., research has given you insights that could help find my 3G grandmother Maria (Marsh) Beals who is supposed to have been born there in about 1806 -- unfortunately, Hadley town records from the time of her birth were destroyed in a fire.)

I would gladly help. I don't know if I can give a lot of time right now, but I am cutting back on my work load. 1634? the ships arrived in Haarlem from Leyden, Holland. Jesse Deforeest was one of the leaders. We believe we hail from him. James Defrees, born ~ 1737 New York, moved to Virginia, North Carolina, and then Sumner county TN (1810?).

I have been involved in family history since 1980. I admit, however, I am not so hot at writing down my sources. All my Germany research has been via microfilms and Geneanet.org.

If you believe I can be of service, please let me know. I currently live in Morristown, Hamblen, Tennessee.

Frankie (Linda Franks)

I'd like to join.  Many of my ancestors were Bliven, Maxson, Clarke, Ross, Saunders, & Randall, I have a rather large tree already & might be able to help/
Thanks for volunteering, Linda and Mary Beth. You have the US History badge now. Please add us_history to your followed tags, and identify any specific US sub-projects you are interested in concentrating on.

I have found that WikiTree -- especially involvement with projects -- helps us learn from each other, and encourages us to "up our game" in genealogy, particularly by doing a more consistent job in sourcing. For example: Linda, I'd love to see you add information from (and citations to) US census records and other sources to put some meat onto profiles like https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Robertson-5089   :-)
I would like to join this group. I have been doing genealogy for over 30 years. I have a special interest in Arkansas (especially Arkansas Post, Arkansas County), Mississippi, and Missouri. Thanks for your consideration of my request
Welcome to the Arkansas Project and the US History Project, Sharon. I have a hunch you are going to be a great asset to our coverage of Arkansas. (You now have the US History badge.)
Thank you for your quick response Ellen. I think Sharon is going to do great too.
Thanks so much for your vote of confidence. Now I'll have to work really hard to live up to your kind words. I appreciate the opportunity to be active here.
Thanks Ellen for your response. I look forward to our work together.
Naw, its not hard work, its just mindbending. Just remember you have a support team behind you.
I am sincere in helping any way that I am able.. Thank You for this post love and light
Lynette,

I would love to have a free space page, but don't even know how to start one. Any advise or help would be very appreciated!!

Terry
Terry, Please send me a PM and let me know what you want your free space page to be about.  It only takes me 3 tries to get it right.
Hey new cou sin Frankie! I too have Jesse Deforeest  way up my tree!  I was sent here by another page and looking for the North Dakota people when I came across your comment - already in the New Netherland Settlers project and looking forward in time to when my branch moved west - first for a while in Ohio, on to Illinois and then up north to homestead in North Dakota! History is so fun when you go see where your family fit in!
I would like to join this group. I'm specifically interested in North Carolina.
I'm interested in United States History. I am already working on various projects including cemeteries, the great war, 1776, and early pa settlers project. I am currently working to add, link, and photograph Lycoming County, PA cemeteries along with any military burials (this includes adding FAG links and checking accuracy on the sites). I am also working to add every early settler from the Spencer Kraybil book for the Pine Creek Valley as I am a direct descendant of many of the families in the book. If anyone is interested in getting family information in the book let me know! I am working to remove duplicates as well within the family.
Thanks for volunteering, ladies! Alexandra and Christine both have shiny new badges for US History. (And Navarro says she's not interested in this badge yet.)

To request a badge, please post an ANSWER using the little "answer" link at the top of this thread.

I'm interested in United States history and this project sounds interesting. Can I join? I'm new to WikiTree, but ready and willing to learn!

Hi, Annora. Tnanks for your interest! You are still a guest member of WikiTree. To be able to be an effective project member, you need to complete the joining process. I left a note on your profile about this.
I was born in Tyler Texas and have a long family history dating back to the mid 1800's. I can contribute known facts regarding the "Brown, Jones and Phillips" families if anyone is interested. I hope soon to add my full GED but want to verify some of the very early data  as the family traveled from Va to TX.

I would like to join the Texas Project

Thanks

Dan
Welcome to the Texas history Project  and Smith county, Dan

Here is the link

Yes I would like to join the Missouri project, I've been doing the work since I have 3 generations born in Sedalia, Missouri. My g-grampa was in the 27th Missouri Mounted Infantry, for 3 months before he died, leaving a pregnant wife/4 now 5 kids and then she died 5 months after her son was born. I have already completed adding, bio, sources and copies of muster cards for all of the 27th Regiment and many others.  Civil War Regiments are my thing, along with adding Category Cemeteries to all profiles. Greer-1558. is one I just posted a Greer photo on..

Thanks for volunteering for this project, Carole. Please let Zachary Smith know you're "on board" for Missouri!

on board
I am on board.  I work full time so it will be catch as catch can.  But Missouri if the long term home of my ancestors from at least the 1790's so it is important to me.

Laurie
Laurie, you also should introduce yourself to Zachary Smith (the Missouri Project Coordinator) to make sure he is aware of you and your interests!
hello I'm amber whitlock and I would love to help. I'm a grand daughter of perrie chastine
I'd like to join the North Carolina Project. Thanks.
Hi, Bettie. This project is for members of WikiTree. I can't tell if you are a member because you were not logged in to WikiTree when you posted your comment. If you aren't yet a member, see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:How_to_Use_WikiTree for information about joining us.
My paternal and maternal lines have lived in NC prior to the American Revolution.  I am a member of DAR.  My research counties are Catawba, Granville, Lincoln and Person.  I am also researching the early American Colonies- Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
Glad to meet you, D. You weren't logged in when you posted, so I'm guessing that you aren't yet a Wikitree member. Will you be joining us?
Yes I do want to join!  I could not find the 'log in or registration site.'  Can you advise?  Many Thanks- D Katherine Jones
Ah, I see that you signed up in 2017 and you are still a guest member. I'll ask a Greeter to contact you to walk you through the process of becoming a "real" member.
I am interested in joining the us_history project. My main state interests are Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and New Jersey. A few examples of surnames I am interested are Foulks, Montgomery, Throneberry, Liggett, Stadel, Marshall, and Mabry to name a few.

As far as the project I am wiling to help out wherever needed. I am fairly new the Wiki Projects, but I am always interested in learning more.
Welcome to the Texas Project,  Angela.  Here is the Project page link:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Texas

If you visit the page, check all the sub-projects of Texas that currently have been written and posted there.  That might give you ideas for others.

Some history is on the County pages.   If you have more, just contact me.

I checked and assume Ellen has already awarded the US_history badge for you.

Hi Angela, Ditto what Mary said and the same applies to Arkansas.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Arkansas

AND if you need ANY HELP at all... HOLLER!!!!!

Hi I would love to join the project. I am the descendant of many early settlers including Col James Mead from Rutland VT Mead-711

Hi, Lopi. You already have the badge for the US History Project. As you build out your family tree, please reach out to other project members whose families share the same families, geographies, or historical events.
Hi, My name is April I am interested in the U.S History project I am really interested in Utah, Ohio, and North Carolina and I would like to contribute however I may be able to help.
Welcome to this project, April. You have the project badge now! When you are getting ready to dive into a focused research effort, I suggest that you introduce yourself to the leader(s) or coordinator(s) of the US History sub-project(s) relevant to your topic -- see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:United_States_History for the list.
Several generations of my mother's family were in Tennessee after coming in at Virginia and the Carolinas. I have found out recently that my 3rd g-g-father, John C Proctor, was murdered 1872, on the highway between Jackson, Tn and Corinth, Miss.

I am interested in joining for Massachusetts. I've got at least 12 different connections to Salem including 3 direct ancestor victims and another great-uncle.  Have several Revolutionary War vets, about 30 PGM members and the founders of Watertown, Rowley, Topsfield, Newbury and Salem.

Bret Cantwell

Thanks to Jamie and Bret for volunteering! You have the badge now.

Folks: To request a badge, please post an ANSWER to this thread. Comments may get overlooked.

Hello!  I am very interested in joining the Kentucky and the Ohio projects.  I am new, but I have traced one line to the 1700s with lots of help.  I would love to be able to help someone.

There are a lot of family cemeteries that need to be documented.

Glad that you are joining us, A -- and congratulations on tracing that one family line!

You have the US History badge now -- please get in touch with coordinators Cheryl (for Kentucky) and Terri (for Ohio) to introduce yourself, let them know what you're working on, etc.

I would like to join the U.S. History Project. In addition to multiple Revolutionary War Patriots among our ancestors I have also discovered that we are descended from Mayflower passengers. I sit in awe of each new discovery since as a girl I was sure that our family was the absolute, only family in the world with the last name of Ottinger. Imagine my surprise! I am especially interested in the Missouri and Tennessee projects too.

I'm new to WikiTree and interested in Clinton County, PA. I have a family line with many linked there. I can help out where needed.
by Rachel Wagoner G2G Crew (560 points)
I too have ancestors from Clinton Co. ( Lock Haven) during Civil War and through the 1880s.  If your relatives were in the Union Army, they may have been in the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteers.  My ancestors were in Co. H of the 148th.  There is a monument in Gettysburg that lists all the names of the soldiers in the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteers.

I'm still plowing away in Arkansas with the Arkansas Project, Census Project (creating census indexes for WT), Civil War, and a few cemeteries.
by Lynette Jester G2G6 Mach 8 (83.2k points)
Hi, Lynette. I was surprised to see a long-time US History project volunteer check in on this thread, but it's great to hear what you're working on!
Thats because I hate making new posts because I can't find the old ones so I piggy back when ever I can.

I have become very interested in researching my family history over the last year and a half. I have recently become a member of DAR after discovering I had family fighting in many of the American and Russian wars. I would enjoy helping out this cause, my husband is exceptionally knowledgeable in US history.

Hi, Kristen. You weren't logged in to WikiTree when you posted. If you're a member, please let us know what your WikiTree ID is; if you're not a member, you need to join us!
So Sorry! Im unsure where to find my ID, all I am finding is Hausmann-106
Hausmann-106 is your ID here. Glad to have you in this project; you'll soon have the badge.

I'm from St.Lawrence County in the far North of New York State. I have ancestors ranging from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc.  I'm familiar with the local resources in my region from my genealogy research (Digital local newspaper archive, Library genealogy collections, and historical societies.

by Fraser Fraser G2G1 (1.2k points)
Welcome, Chris. Just the other day I created a profile for somebody who lived in St. Lawrence County -- it's good to know who I can ask for advice about the area.
I'm glad there are so many local resources in this rural area. Hopefully I can be added to the project so I can list them on the NY and St. Lawrence county page.

I am interested in joining because I am a history buff and I love finding ancestors in the stories that history has told us about. For example, George Washington and one of my maternal ancestors are in Washington's letters. I also have maternal ancestors that have served in all of the wars that America has ever been in. In addition, family lore has my ancestors having a part on both sides of the Salem Witch Trials, which I have found out to be true. Luckily, they survived otherwise none of the maternal descendants of that family would exist.
by Susan Redfearn G2G Crew (500 points)

Sounds like you'll want to contribute about everywhere, Susan. You may also be interested in participating in the Witch Trials project or some of the Military and War subprojects for US wars.

Although I do have badges for Mayflower, PGM and 1776, U.S. history has always been of great interest to me since I was a child. I have over 30 ancestral families that came to America after 1620, and many published family genealogies in the 19th and early 20th century. So far, I have entered much of several of those of several of those genealogies into WikiTree and still have more to go. At present am working on the 1868 genealogy of the Peck family. These old family genealogies are full of the history of their times.

Alton Rogers
by Alton Rogers G2G1 (1.6k points)
Thanks for joining this project, Alton. You and I are distant cousins, several times over. Like you, I'm aware that there has been a great deal of history on this American continent since the years when our Mayflower and PGM ancestors arrived.

That 1868 Peck genealogy by Ira Ballou Peck is a wonderful piece of work -- particularly for its time. It's definitely not error-free, though -- we do need to check (and cite) original records and more recent scholarship to confirm the information or discover errors.

I've collected a lot of information about the Civil War soldiers of the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, and I'm always happy to share.  By extension, I've also accumulated a lot of info from Worcester County, MA, and am glad to work with others in this area.
by S. Harnwell G2G Crew (500 points)
Thanks for offering your resources! You have the badge now. I do hope you'll be taking the time to add your ancestry and other family to WikiTree.

I am interested in joining the US History project because of my own personal family history as it relates to US history. As early settlers from Scotland, Ireland, England, we had a family member on the Mayflower, Civil War and Revolutionary war veterans, as well as many other stories that were found through research.
by Calista Massey G2G1 (1.1k points)
You have the badge, Calista! I look forward to seeing your contributions here.

I would like to join because I have a long line of family in the US back to colonial times. I would like to be the project coordinator for Oklahoma as I was born and raised here and am proud of my state.

My name is Angelique Mae Barton Chamberlain. I have a fairly large tree. I’ve enjoyed working on genealogy for about 25 years. I’m a member of DAR, APG & NGS. My husband’s family also goes back to colonial times.
by Angelique Chamberlain G2G6 Mach 1 (16.2k points)
Happy to have you in the project, Angelique! And thanks so much for your offer to coordinate Oklahoma. Because Sarah and I are both new to the leadership role in this project, we won't be designating additional coordinators immediately -- please bear with us while we assess the current situation across the US History project and its sub-projects.

I would like to join US history project. I am trying to prove all my Revolutionary War patriots. I would also like to join the Michigan History project. Both myself and my husband descend from early pioneers of Michigan.
by Laura Holman G2G Crew (950 points)

You have the US History badge now, Laura. Thanks for volunteering!

There's no separate badge for Michigan, but please add michigan to your followed tags list so you will be alerted to Michigan discussions here in G2G. Many American families passed through Michigan at one time or another, so many of us might want to consult with members like you from time to time.

One fourth of my tree goes back to colonial times. There are a lot of smaller interests I see in the list. Working on a project with my cousin regarding Bell Rock Cemetery in Malden, MA. Many sources add names to the burials which don't appear on the Find-A-Grave site. My immigrant ancestor's memorial at Bell Rock Cemetery was seen in the late 1960s on one of the surveys that is archived at the Malden Public Library. However, has been skipped in Find-A-Grave. We are now locating other sources in the hopes that we find his memorial.
by Gregg Legutki G2G Crew (960 points)
You have the US History badge now, Greg. Thanks for volunteering and for letting us know about your work in that cemetery.

I hope you find your ancestor's memorial, but even if you don't it's good to have that older record. I have some ancestors whose graves were recorded in past decades but are no longer findable, so I'm grateful for those old cemetery records, which often contain information not available anywhere else.

Hello my name is Melody, I really don't have any one favorite topic, I love to learn about pretty much everything history has to offer. I would love to volunteer and help in any way that I can. Thank you.. Melody Loudermilk

by Melody Loudermilk G2G Crew (720 points)

Hi, Melody! Welcome to WikiTree. Before you start joining projects, you need to upgrade your membership status from Guest member to full Wiki Genealogist. You should see a form on your WikiTree Nav Page to help get you to the next step. And I suggest that you sign up at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following to follow the us_history tag here in G2G.

You say you are interested in everything, but maybe there's a topic in which you are particularly well-equipped to build online content or help others: Perhaps it's your home state, or a particular time period (such as Reconstruction or the Great Depression), or a specific focus like cemeteries in the county where you live. Any thoughts?

I am definitely interested in helping out with this project.  I have family that has been here since 1635, who came here during the Great Migration, on the Mary & John with Gov. Winthrop.  I have a ton of info that I have gleaned from many resources all over the internet, as well as from visiting my ancestors' graves in Dedham, MA.  Plus, I have driven my family batty, pestering them with questions...  haha  :)
by Kristen Wolfe G2G Crew (530 points)
Welcome! For the time being I expect that you will be concentrating in building the more recent generations of your ancestry, but as you work back in time you might decided that you want to get involved with specialized projects such as Puritan Great Migration.

I am interested in helping in the Native Americans Project or sub-projects I willing to start small and I am volunteering to do the Ojibwa Tribe and work up, just let me know. Rose
by Rose Edwards G2G6 Mach 1 (18.8k points)

Hi, Rose. We'd love to have you in the US History Project, but it seems like your passion is for the Native Americans Project, which has its own separate badge and sign-up thread. Please go introduce yourself to them at their G2G thread. I predict that they'll be excited to have your help.

And it you also want to work with other aspects of US History, just come back here and say the word!

I'm a huge student of American history especially the westward movement.

I'm interested in joining the US History project especially how it relates to Maine. I've done quite a bit of work in this area and it keeps tending to overlap with the Acadia project, Massachussetts project, Mayflower project, etc yet not quite fit any of them.
by Steven Tibbetts G2G6 Pilot (407k points)
You have the badge now, Steven.

Maine does overlap quite a bit with Massachusetts (after all, it used to be part of Massachusetts) and Acadia -- and because those early New England settlers were maritime people, Maine probably didn't seem as remote from places like Plymouth as it does for us modern landlubbers. Glad you care about its history!

Hello. Yes, I am interested in joining the US History Project. I have posted many of our family ancestors on wikitree.com who emigrated from Canada with their families, and were buried here. In fact, next to the UK, there are more MAXTEDs in the US than any other country. Some were involved in the Fenian Raids, some had businesses in Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Florida; while some were Big Band Leaders - like Billy Maxted of the Manhattan Jazz Band fame. Lots of interesting stories in a myriad of different trades and professions. So do count me in!
