The United States History Project and its myriad sub-projects cover the people, places, and events through time in the geographic region that we know today as the United States of America. See the US History Project page for information on our scope of activity, our sub-projects, and some related projects.

If you are a WikiTree member who would like to help improve profiles and other WikiTree content in one or more of the US History sub-projects, please:

1. Introduce yourself by answering this post. (Please post an answer, not a comment.) Tell us about your interests in US history -- and how you intend to contribute -- and we will get you a US History badge.
2. Add us_history to your followed tags, as well as tags for any specific states or special topics that you are focusing on.

Please be sure to check out our project page for links to the various sub-projects you might want to join. Note that several other specialized US-related projects, such as US Southern Colonies, Mayflower, Puritan Great Migration, and the 1776 Project, have their own badges separate from this one. You don't also need to join the US History project to participate in one of those projects, but most of us work on multiple topics and may want to be in more than one project.

Several generations of my mother's family were in Tennessee after coming in at Virginia and the Carolinas. I have found out recently that my 3rd g-g-father, John C Proctor, was murdered 1872, on the highway between Jackson, Tn and Corinth, Miss.

I am interested in joining for Massachusetts. I've got at least 12 different connections to Salem including 3 direct ancestor victims and another great-uncle.  Have several Revolutionary War vets, about 30 PGM members and the founders of Watertown, Rowley, Topsfield, Newbury and Salem.

Hello!  I am very interested in joining the Kentucky and the Ohio projects.  I am new, but I have traced one line to the 1700s with lots of help.  I would love to be able to help someone.

There are a lot of family cemeteries that need to be documented.

I would like to join the U.S. History Project. In addition to multiple Revolutionary War Patriots among our ancestors I have also discovered that we are descended from Mayflower passengers. I sit in awe of each new discovery since as a girl I was sure that our family was the absolute, only family in the world with the last name of Ottinger. Imagine my surprise! I am especially interested in the Missouri and Tennessee projects too.

I too have ancestors from Clinton Co. ( Lock Haven) during Civil War and through the 1880s.  If your relatives were in the Union Army, they may have been in the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteers.  My ancestors were in Co. H of the 148th.  There is a monument in Gettysburg that lists all the names of the soldiers in the 148th Pennsylvania Volunteers.

I have become very interested in researching my family history over the last year and a half. I have recently become a member of DAR after discovering I had family fighting in many of the American and Russian wars. I would enjoy helping out this cause, my husband is exceptionally knowledgeable in US history.

I'm from St.Lawrence County in the far North of New York State. I have ancestors ranging from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, WWI, WWII, etc.  I'm familiar with the local resources in my region from my genealogy research (Digital local newspaper archive, Library genealogy collections, and historical societies.

I am interested in joining because I am a history buff and I love finding ancestors in the stories that history has told us about. For example, George Washington and one of my maternal ancestors are in Washington's letters. I also have maternal ancestors that have served in all of the wars that America has ever been in. In addition, family lore has my ancestors having a part on both sides of the Salem Witch Trials, which I have found out to be true. Luckily, they survived otherwise none of the maternal descendants of that family would exist.

Although I do have badges for Mayflower, PGM and 1776, U.S. history has always been of great interest to me since I was a child. I have over 30 ancestral families that came to America after 1620, and many published family genealogies in the 19th and early 20th century. So far, I have entered much of several of those of several of those genealogies into WikiTree and still have more to go. At present am working on the 1868 genealogy of the Peck family. These old family genealogies are full of the history of their times.

Thanks for joining this project, Alton. You and I are distant cousins, several times over. Like you, I'm aware that there has been a great deal of history on this American continent since the years when our Mayflower and PGM ancestors arrived.

That 1868 Peck genealogy by Ira Ballou Peck is a wonderful piece of work -- particularly for its time. It's definitely not error-free, though -- we do need to check (and cite) original records and more recent scholarship to confirm the information or discover errors.

I've collected a lot of information about the Civil War soldiers of the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, and I'm always happy to share.  By extension, I've also accumulated a lot of info from Worcester County, MA, and am glad to work with others in this area.

I am interested in joining the US History project because of my own personal family history as it relates to US history. As early settlers from Scotland, Ireland, England, we had a family member on the Mayflower, Civil War and Revolutionary war veterans, as well as many other stories that were found through research.

I would like to join because I have a long line of family in the US back to colonial times. I would like to be the project coordinator for Oklahoma as I was born and raised here and am proud of my state.

I would like to join US history project. I am trying to prove all my Revolutionary War patriots. I would also like to join the Michigan History project. Both myself and my husband descend from early pioneers of Michigan.

There's no separate badge for Michigan, but please add michigan to your followed tags list so you will be alerted to Michigan discussions here in G2G. Many American families passed through Michigan at one time or another, so many of us might want to consult with members like you from time to time.

One fourth of my tree goes back to colonial times. There are a lot of smaller interests I see in the list. Working on a project with my cousin regarding Bell Rock Cemetery in Malden, MA. Many sources add names to the burials which don't appear on the Find-A-Grave site. My immigrant ancestor's memorial at Bell Rock Cemetery was seen in the late 1960s on one of the surveys that is archived at the Malden Public Library. However, has been skipped in Find-A-Grave. We are now locating other sources in the hopes that we find his memorial.

I hope you find your ancestor's memorial, but even if you don't it's good to have that older record. I have some ancestors whose graves were recorded in past decades but are no longer findable, so I'm grateful for those old cemetery records, which often contain information not available anywhere else.

I am definitely interested in helping out with this project.  I have family that has been here since 1635, who came here during the Great Migration, on the Mary & John with Gov. Winthrop.  I have a ton of info that I have gleaned from many resources all over the internet, as well as from visiting my ancestors' graves in Dedham, MA.  Plus, I have driven my family batty, pestering them with questions...  haha  :)

I'm interested in joining the US History project especially how it relates to Maine. I've done quite a bit of work in this area and it keeps tending to overlap with the Acadia project, Massachussetts project, Mayflower project, etc yet not quite fit any of them.

Maine does overlap quite a bit with Massachusetts (after all, it used to be part of Massachusetts) and Acadia -- and because those early New England settlers were maritime people, Maine probably didn't seem as remote from places like Plymouth as it does for us modern landlubbers. Glad you care about its history!

Hello. Yes, I am interested in joining the US History Project. I have posted many of our family ancestors on wikitree.com who emigrated from Canada with their families, and were buried here. In fact, next to the UK, there are more MAXTEDs in the US than any other country. Some were involved in the Fenian Raids, some had businesses in Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin and Florida; while some were Big Band Leaders - like Billy Maxted of the Manhattan Jazz Band fame. Lots of interesting stories in a myriad of different trades and professions. So do count me in!
