My grandfather was a navigator in the Mighty 8th United States Army Air Forces, flying with his crew on a B-24 Liberator. His unit, the 700th Bomb Squadron, part of the 445th Bomb Group, was enlisted for the Rhineland Campaign.
Per Wikipedia, ..."half of the U.S. Army Air Force's casualties in World War II were suffered by Eighth Air Force (more than 47,000 casualties, with more than 26,000 dead)."
I know that my grandfather met with his former crew mates as long as they were living. They all stayed in touch. I imagine that once you share what they did, the ties to one another would be very strong. I only wish that I had the name of his fellow crew. Maybe someone will see this photo and know some of the other men.
I wanted to share this family photo of my grandfather Joe Damiano with the community. Location: RAF Tibenham, England. Date: 1943.
