Pastor Alfred Baur's final letter to St. John's congregation. Needs translation from German Script to English

+2 votes

This is the last letter my Grandfather wrote to his congregation (St. John's Lutheran Church, Cedar Mills, MN) before dying of cancer in 1927. The letter was written August 1st, 1927. Grandpa died three months later on November 19th. He left behind Grandma Clara Hinderer Baur and my Dad, Ralph Baur, who was age 5.

I know this may be a challenge, but also believe it is a one of a kind letter.

Here is some background. Grandpa was in Detroit, MI at the Kock Cancer Clinic undergoing experimental treatment (Hoxsey cancer treatment), including two operations. He had attempted to drive to WA so grandma could visit her siblings. He was living at the  Walther League Hospice.

Names which may be of interest. His father-in-law, Paul Hinderer, helped at the church while Alfred was sick. Paul lived in Watertown, SD. Alfred's brother-in-law, Pastor Eugene Hinderer, also helped serve the church during this time. Eugene lived in Tappin, ND.

I sure appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks!

Thanks, Janine! I appreciate your help!

Help with this translation is on the way!  My friend's question: is the last line of the page

Ich schreibe sofort an diesen Arzt.

Thanks for checking!

As far as I can tell, Janine.

I rescanned the letter and updated the image in my original post. I think it is a better copy.  Thanks to you and your friend for the help!

Just an update:  my friend has transcribed the first half of the document.  She is glad to help.  Thanks for your patience,  Janine
Thanks for the update, Janine. It is always nice to know I'm not forgotten. My thanks to you and your friend!

Is there a way I can assign this and the translation to Alfred's profile?

Hi Jim!

Do you still need the translation of your letter here?

At first sight I can say I am able to read most of it, so just let me know if help is needed!

I apologize for the late response to your question, David. I have been out of town due to a death in the family. Thanks for your follow up. I do have the translation to this letter.

I do have more letters, but things will have to wait until things from summer settle down and winter gives me more "inside time."
