Hello! Are you interested in helping with the Huguenot Migration Project?  If so, please answer this post and ask to join the project.

Additionally:

  1. Add huguenot to your followed tags.
  2.  Add the category [[Category:Huguenot_Migration_Project]] including the double brackets, to your own profile, above your biography section

The WikiTree Huguenot Migration Project defines "Huguenot” as French-speaking Protestant Christians (whatever branch or denomination) that left their homeland (France or borderlands such as Provence, Navarre, Franche Comté or the Spanish Netherlands - today's Belgium) due to religious persecution or intolerance.  Occitan-speaking or Provencal-speaking French Protestants and French-speaking families from today’s Belgium (Walloons, Liegeois) are included.  Note that in this Project we only include the actual Emigrants and their emigrating families, not their Descendants.  We do include "Double Hops," where a family fled France or a borderland for Germany, the Netherlands  or England and then they or their children moved on to America or South Africa or elsewhere, usually beyond Europe.

This Project is limited in time & space: only Protestant Christians who left their French or borderland home due to religious intolerance between about 1540 and 1790 (when France declared all religions legal) and whose proper language or culture was French (Walloons / Occitans / Provençals included) are part of this Project.

  • Non-French-culture Protestants or descendants beyond “Double Hop” children are not placed in this Project, even though they continued to self-identify as Huguenots.  There will be a “Huguenot Descendant Sticker” to identify them, down to the Present.  A “Huguenot Family Sticker” will identify foreign-born wives, husbands or grand-children of Huguenot emigrants.  A “Huguenot Non-Emigrant Sticker” will identify those French-speaking Protestants who remained in France or a borderland.

If you are interested in this world-wide diaspora between 1540-1790, please join this Project:  introduce yourself and tell us your Huguenot surnames of interest.

Bienvenue!  / Welcome!

Sorry...Where's the honor pledge?
Hi John

The Honor Code is a pledge all our Full Members sign when they join WikiTree.  Here is a URL that helps explain it:

www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Honor_Code

Also you should see

www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Membership

It explains the different levels of Membership - signing the Honor Code online automatically upgrades you to full or "Wiki Genealogist" membership.  At that time you can use this G2G thread - ANSWER not a Comment - and ask to join the Huguenot Migration Project.

Good luck and Happy Ancestor Hunting!

The Tuley family arrived in America around 1675 through England. Currently 1680 is the the point at which that documentation ends and legend begins. I would like to join this group to find more documentation or at least clues to where I might find more documentation.

I love how WikiTree insists on documentation!

I am interested in participating in your project.  I am unsure of where to put [[Category:Huguenot_Migration_Project]] profile?  I understand above my biography, but not sure how to post.

Hi,

My Huguenot family interest is with the Laffon family who seem to be associated with Castres en Tarn and Bordeaux, and one of whom, Susan Laffon married my gggg-gpa, Wm Magrath, in Dublin in 1758.

She appears in the will of John Nairac (1724- d1792 Dublin, and whose father Jean Nairac, 1675-1757, was a noted Bordeaux sugar merchant), where it states that her father Philip Laffon was his cousin.  This would make Philip a brother of Alexandre Laffon de Ladebat, who appears in Wikipedia.

I don't know whether Philip Laffon or his daughter Susanne were actually born in France or Ireland or elsewhere, or where they died for that matter.    There is a potential sister to Susanne - Marianne b1739 Dublin - but not proven.  My research has produced lots on the Nairac family and their relationship to the Laffons - but of Philip and family...nul.

Alexandre Laffon (b1719 Bordeaux, likely brother of Philip) studied in Holland and it is quite possible that bits of the Laffon & Nairac families went to Holland before appearing in Dublin.

I found a ref to Jean Nairac senior suggesting that he became resident in Dublin before 1721 (http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148bpt6k5701797q/texteBrut[148 REVUE DUE DEPARTEMENT DU TARN]  )

I don't know what Philip Laffon's occupation was.  My gggg-gpa was a government solicitor and the male children I know of were a solicitor and 2 lieutenants in the Dragoons, one of whom died in France in 1795.

Any help/guidance on where to investigate further would be much appreciated - esp for France and Holland where I have little experience.

I would like to join the Huguenot project. My ancestor, Frederick DeSanno has been mentioned in at least two books about the Huguenots in America. He settled first in Bucks County, PA and married into the  Reiter family of Upper Hanover. See De_Sannois-1.

While his surname is in question (De Sannois), his existence in America is not and his children are well-documented. I have added the category to my profile!

Thank you!

Hello!

I would like to join this project. I am a descendant on my paternal side of François Rétif (Retief), my 6th great-grandfather, from Mer de Blois (I believe)  and also of Pierre Rousseau from Aquitaine, who arrived at the Cape of Good Hope in 1688.

Hi - I would like to join this project. I believe I have Huguenot ancestors called Rose or De Ros. They arrived in England first and then went to Ireland and settled in Limerick. I have traced back to the first settler in Limerick who was Thomas Rose born around 1650.

Thanks

Hi,

Sicard is the only name I have right now, there might be others in my tree. Abroise is credited as one of the first Huguenots to live in New York.

Bonjour!

I would like to join both the Huguenot project and the Huguenot Descendant, as I believe I am a descendant of Huguenots.

To get started in contributing, the following file turned up on a Bing internet search. Has anyone in the Huguenot group seen it?

The Huguenot Bartholomew Dupuy and his descendants
It has been very valuable in my research.  I would love to join this project.  He was my 9th great-grandfather.

hello All,

The rumor of my Canada family (Lowry and Degraff) escaping from France (as Huguenot's = Protestants) is rampant in my family's verbal history.  Whether true or not, it is of interest to me to figure it out.  I would love to help this project where I can and of course sort out brick walls in my research too.
