Hi Ethel,

Your best bet is to order a marriage certificate from https://www.gov.uk/order-copy-birth-death-marriage-certificate This will give the name of Robert's father.

John Copeland of Kilbride appears to be dead by 1874 when his daughter Anne gets married - https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1874/11246/8124608.pdf. He probably died before Civil Registration started in 1864.

There is also another John Copeland, an ex-policeman who died a widower at Clonagh in Mountmellick in 1895 aged 81 - https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1895/05930/4684295.pdf

There are also two other Copeland families in Kilbride.

GEORGE is shown as living in Kilbride in 1851-2 and he is probably the man whose death was registered at Mountmellick in 1869, his age was given as 73.

His wife Mary (Lawler) Copeland died in Kilbride in 1894 and left her estate to son George and unmarried daughters Bridget, Margaret, and Elizabeth. Some details of her will are at http://www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/reels/cwa/005014908/005014908_00087.pdf Her son George's marriage certificate is at - https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1891/10686/5894666.pdf

Other children of George and Mary are:

PETER Copeland of Kilbride is named as the father of Essey when she married in 1874 - https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1874/11246/8124607.pdf.

Happy Hunting

John
