What happened to Peter Fischer, b. Jan. 1897, confirmed April 1911, NY German Lutheran

I found a Peter Fischer's confirmation certificate dated April 9, 1911 in a thrift shop in Richmond, VA.  It was written in German and noted his birthdate as January 16, 1897.  The church was "Evangelisch Lutherischen St. Luke's Kniche, New York City.  William Koepchen pastor.  I have looked under genealogy sites and could not match his birth date.  I also did a search for the church and found nothing.  I put in the address "22 & 24 William Street" and found it in Staten Island.  It looks like a warehouse now listed under property sharks.

It seemed like such an important document to be in a thrift store, and I wondered if someone was looking for information on Peter Fischer, or the German Lutheran community in NY.  It also made me curious as to what happened to him after 1911 and how did his confirmation certificate end up here?

I have several Peter fischers in my family.. They lived in New York for awhile around the late 1890's then moved on to San Francisco. 1897 is not any of the dates for my immediate family, but he might be a cousin or something.
