I created a location category, but it doesn't appear in the index where it should belong.

Question

This is the entry as it appears, but when I look under Categories in the regions it doesn't appear under Shiawassee County.  I've looked at the help entries and can't figure out why this isn't working. It looks like I should have made it "Shiawassee County" , but some of the other township entries that do appear don't include the word county. 

I would like to add some additional townships to Shiawassee County that don't currently appear to link to ancestors, but am not clear what might be incorrect about what I've done.

Category: Vernon Township, Shiawassee, Michigan

Well, Gaile's answer is correct but the category name is off.

If you add the word "County" then it's all good.

[[Category: Vernon Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan]]

which is nested under [[Category: Shiawassee County, Michigan]].

Just remember when the township name is used, add the word "county" to the county name after it. Sometimes, there is more than one township with that name in a particular US state. [[Category: XXXX Township, XXX County, XXX State]].

Jill, You need to place it in the hierarchy - it doesn't get there automatically because software isn't that smart.

When you first make a category page, you need to edit it and put the next higher level category on the page.  In this case it would be:

[[Category: Shiawassee County, Michigan]]
