Stewkley, Stucley or Stukeley?

We have profiles for the Stukeley / Stucley family, of Devon, with proposed merges.  Any ideas on how we want the spelling of this family?

These profiles have been going back and forth (see Changes pages).  Thanks!

The only thing I have found is Vivian's Visitation of Devon... (1895) HathiTrust.org Page 722 which uses the "Stucley" spelling.

Aren't we supposed to do each profile individually and not try to standardize?

Hi RJ,

Thank you.  I'm sure you're correct.  I just cringe a little when I see the merge history.

Do you think the sources on the profiles for Mary and her father, John Stucley, are sufficient to choose the "Stucley" spelling?

I am not familiar with the family and have not found anything resembling primary documents for them.

Question 2:  Can you think of a project for these, so they might be PPP'd?

Thanks again!

I cringe too.  I wasn't serious.

I think Vivian is fairly authoritative on Devon surnames, and would therefore vote for STUCLEY. It is the spelling used in the Burke reference books, for example their ''Peerage'', 1953 edition, page 2020. And it is the spelling the present family use: see their website [https://www.hartlandabbey.com/history/]
