Assuming you're trying to save the data and not just the output, almost all desktop applications will have a Save As... option in the File menu somewhere, so you should open that and save the data to the flash drive. You can also just copy the data file to the flash drive if you can find it. If you're trying to save a formatted output, like an actual tree or chart, a lot of software will have an option to save or print things like that to PDF format. I think copy and paste into a word processor window should be kind of a last resort, since it's not going to save the data in a really usable way.
