Who are John Calvin Church's parents?

Hello! I am helping a cousin to find her gg? grandfather. John Calvin Church-4040 born 12 Jun 1827, Rogersville, Greene Co, PA. Married Catherine Staggers-28 26 Aug 1849, Rogersville, Green Co, PA. John was in the war 1861-1865 and was granted a pension. Catherine claimed the pension upon John's death in 1895. Mother was "supposedly" Mary, but no father was on the application - stated as both "deceased".

I have spent many, many hours trying to track his mother and father down, but nothing has shown up. There are many Church families that came to America (at least 4 have traced ancestry through books, including Richard Church, who came on the Mayflower).

Year: 1850; Census Place: Center, Greene, Pennsylvania; Roll: M432_783; Page: 273A; Image: 544. Household #99.

A note of interest: in Center, Greene PA 1850 census there are other "Church" families: i.e.

1880 Census still in Coe, Isabella Co, MI but John C is now born in Virginia.

I know the state lines changed a lot, so I am in a quandry as to where to search to find him.

Thank you! Wendy Jones-21849

Hello Frank!

I hate to disappoint you but Henry and Sarah are #107, page 16 that you attached have John - who is the one who married into the Fordyce family.

John C Church and Catherine are # 99, page 15 of the same census.

Hi Wendy, John Calvin Church is also my GG Grandfather.  Our family has been stuck at that exact same spot for decades, so I decided to take a Y DNA test.  My very close matches are all to Germans with the surname "Kirch" as well as a multitude of other German surnames for more distant matches.  Out of hundreds of close and distant matches, the name Church does not appear a single time.

Hi Don! The person that I have been working down through is Emma Lorena Church, who was born 1865 to John Calvin Church and Catherine Staggers. It would make sense if the Church's were of German origin as the Staggers family is. Catherine's father is John Staggers (WT # is Staggers-29) and Sarah Livengood (WT # is Livengood (Staggers)-256. Please go and have a look at the tree.

Please find your branch and enter your information.

Thanks, Wendy :)
Hi Don,

I know that I was looking for Schurch, etc and at one point I did find a number of this family name emigrating into, I think either Mississippi, or Pennsylvania, but would have to look it up again, unless I saved it my computer (somewhere!). I'll have a look and let you know.

Wendy :)
