The wives of John Orchard

John Orchard is named by Lyon Gardiner Tyler as the former husband of Anne, the second wife of Henry Tyler.

When looking at land Virginia Colonial Patents, John Orchard is granted a Patent in September, 1636, and his "now" wife is named Ann. John is granted a second Patent in August, 1637 and in this record his "first" wife Ann is "deceased" and his "now" wife is named Mary.

Lyon G. Tyler states "John Orchard died in 1655" and his widow Ann married Henry Tyler.

I have seen online references to John Orchard's wife as Ann Armstead and Anne Phillips. I have not found any information naming "Mary".

Since there is a record for John Orchard wedding Anne Phillips in Cornwall, England in 1641, I am drawing the conclusion that Anne Phillips is his third wife and that Ann Armstead would be his first wife?

Any help would be appreciated.

I would be skeptical that this is the same John Orchard in Virginia and Cornwall. Tyler, like a lot of genealogists in his circle, could be a little credulous about things like that.
I literally got 222 hits on FindMyPast for John Orchard between 1630 and 1650.
Yes, I am very skeptical. I am well aware of the number of "potential" matches. I am also skeptical of many of the published family lines with scant records. Right now I am not trusting what I thought I knew a while ago - that is why I asked here.
In my experience, almost all of the colonial immigrant identifications from that era are wrong. I'm pleasantly surprised if one turns out to be true, but it doesn't happen much.
Was John Orchard a clergyman since the one that married Anna Phillips in 1641 was the vicar of St Kew. Sorry finding it hard to link  as am on a phone. The marriage is on the Cornwall opc site. If you search the church of England clergy database then you may find more about him; though this was a troubled period and records don't always
exist.

Edit I checked the cced database and John Orchard Vicar of Kew was an MA. He had been appointed a preacher throughout the diocese of Exeter in 1636.Appointed to Kew in 1640 and by checking on the parish it appears that a vacancy was caused by his death in 1675 (for some reason that is not in his own data base entry)  This doesn't appear to be your John Orchard.

So basically this man wasn't in Virginia and as it stands has a totally incorrect biography.
Helen, Thank you for the information. I was growing fearful of a conflation of family due to old research by others and lack of colonial records.

However there is a John Orchard in colonial Virginia, just not the John Orchard who wed Ann Phillips, daughter of Gregorie Phillips.

I failed to mention all of the persons in the inquiry died in the Virginia Colony. The first Ann deceased before August 1637, and Mary apparently before 1641.
Mary Orchard, daughter of Mary Orchard could have stayed behind in England where she died in 1672. Too bad the information on that daughter did not include her birth year.
