What happened to the parent and child connections?

I completed a merge this morning and noticed the new interface. One profile had parents and at least one child. After the merge and careful editing the connections had vanished. I do not understand why.

I would mention it in the G2G post that Chris has posted. Here is the Link : https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/541777/did-you-see-the-new-merge-system . I have come across a couple of bugs as well but what happened here looks like a very serious bug.

Check  "Changes"  at the top of the profile...should tell you more about the history...come to think of it, Philip, I'm sure you've thought of that!

It shows in the history that they were not imported. Without a screenshot it isn't clear what may have happened. I will try to go complete a few merges and see if it reproduces. Comment here if you see it again, Philip.

The connections were all attached to the profile with the higher number. I did not tick any of the four boxes behind the parent profiles during the merge. Which (if this was the cause) does not explain the chlid(ren) connection(s) getting lost as well.
In the old merge system, if one profile had parents and one didn't, the merged profile always defaulted to having the parents attached unless you specifically clicked to remove them. The new system doesn't do this -- it depends on whether the merge-to or merge-from profile has the parents attached.
I see you merged https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Evertsen-46 Abby. Did you have the same experience with the parents? I do see the one child profile still connected.
I could succesfully conclude the following merge though: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Allison-2080
I had the same result with this merge. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Rhoady-2

She is now disconnected from her sister Malinda and parents.

Their father's last name is Rode't but I am not sure which one. It is either Moses or Jean. Hopefully the Profile Managers will be able to re-connect the parents again.

I did not click the boxes either.
Sounds like for now, to be safe, before merging it's perhaps better to add the links to the parents in a post at the profile to make sure they are not lost ?

I think I found the correct ones including the sister, so connected her to them again. In the Bio it was mentioned the name was derived from Rhodet to the later last name she has + the find a grave mentioned these parents

It follows the same model as WikiTreeX and GEDcompare - selective import to the target profile from the other data.

Only in this case the target "merged-into" profile is determined by the LNAB/ID considerations.  Sometimes you have to merge the good profile away.

In that case I foresee this causing great problems in the future and think it needs changing.
It seems very easy not to notice when parents are being dropped.  Perhaps it could say "unknown" instead of just a blank space.

It's not just parents, it's all the data fields.  With the old system, wherever one profile had data and the other didn't, the data was always kept.  This doesn't happen now.  But it's easy to miss the significance of the empty white box next to the data, and not realize that this means "data discarded".
