Could this be this Edward Goodchild?

Could this be the Edward Goodchild from my family tree? The birthdate is off but the birthdate I have is just based on family information, no documents.

Good question, Jody and thanks for asking it here on G2G.

Your comments following Frank's answer and Rhian's comments are especially encouraging: "Thanks for the feedback. It's hard not to want to believe them as hints because there's just no information... and you want to find something useful. "

It's true.  We all DO want to find something useful.  But winning the fight against the temptation to use or copy undocumented, unrealiable sources makes us better, more responsible and more mature as genealogists.

Good work!  And good luck!

As always, I wish you happy ancestor hunting,

Keith

The validity of the Ancestral submission needs to be verified. You probably saw the indication:  "...Always verify contributed entries against sources of primary information."

by Frank Gill G2G Astronaut (2.6m points)

Even worse was the bit before that -

The information has not been verified against any official records. Duplicate entries and inconsistent information are common. Always verify contributed entries against sources of primary information.

Do not trust anything from these 'trees' often they are not even good as hints. I have one ancester thet list with 6 different names and two genders that are supposed to be one person. Your unsourced family information is just as likely to be correct, if not more likely.

Same birth year, and parents, but different middle initial. Cites reference: familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VF66-X2B

familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XQZW-F75  Shows Edward's wife, two daughters and sister in law.

At variance when compared to the "WikiTree profile: Edward Goodchild", where the wife is Katherine Ogger.

yeah so probably not. Good points all. Thanks for the feedback. It's hard not to want to believe them as hints because there's just no information... and you want to find something useful.

You might want to try posting a question at http://genforum.genealogy.com/goodchild/

If you have other family info such as Edward's children's names, birth year and location and things like that, you might also try familysearch.org with that. They have a "Get Help" feature which could be explored also.
