The name Layton appears many times (in several generations) as a male given name in our line of Bentleys (England, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York). We believe it may have come into the family as an ancestress' surname or possibly as another's surname. Thank you.

Do you have specific info on the first Bentley to have Layton as a first name? That could include his birth year as well as the country, county and or city he was born in.
Layton Bentley b. 10 Sep 1775 Kent, Litchfield, Connecticut, USA d. 01 Mar 1849 Kingsbury, Washington, New York, USA. m. Lucy (Stewart 03 Sep 1776 Dublin, Cheshire, New Hampshire, USA) the part in parentheses is unconfirmed. d. 02 Oct 1855 Kingsbury, Washington, New York, USA

This is the first one I have on my tree.  I have several instances of the name with later dates but not before this.

This Layton Bentley is the son of Benjamin of Exeter, Washington, Rhode Island, USA and Deborah Baker b. 1734 d.11 Feb 1818 Kingsbury, Washington, New York, USA.

Benjamin is the son of William Bentley (Jr) b. 08 Jul 1677 RI d. 01 Jul 1760 RI and Bathsheba Greene 1698-1775 RI; son of Wm (Sr) of Eng + Sarah Eldred of MA
Did not find a Layton connection with your most recent info.
Thank you for your time.  It was just a thought on my part.  I appreciate your interest.
