Did Ruth Salisbury daughter of Richard and Ruth have two husbands?

+3 votes

OK, I am stumped.  Perhaps someone else will see what I am missing.

Eddy Cole, married Ruth Salisbury on 11 Dec. 1760.  Solid marriage record at Family Search.  The link is in his profile.  The Cole genealogy shows the marriage but no parents for her.  The marriage record shows Richard and Ruth Salisbury as parents.  The interesting note is at the bottom of the record:

Father's Name Richard Salebury; Mother's Name Ruth; Spouse's Name Eddy Cole

Note b 31 Dec 1722

As the date of marriage is 1860, Ruth would have been 38, and Eddy only 22.  So far so good.

Now the problem - there are a huge number of family files, including one on Wikitree as well as the Sprague Project that all show Ruth, daughter of Richard and Ruth Boomer, as marrying Samuel Sprague.  However I can not find a single source for that marriage.  Those files all show Samuel and Ruth as having children after 1860.  Family search gives a long list of children for Samuel and Ruth, but no maiden name for Ruth.

So am I the only one that has found this and everyone else is wrong? (Somehow that really seems unlikely) Or what else is going on?

Any ideas appreciated - a source really appreciated.

Perhaps two different Ruths. the marriages seem to overlap

Ruth and Eddy Cole1760 to his death 1814 or before.

Ruth and Sprague (he died 6 Dec 1778)

Yes I agree.  I think two different Ruths.  Now, who are the parents of the Ruth that married Samuel?

An unsourced family tree has her marrying Samuel Sprague at the age of 10. I can only find sources for one marriage to Eddy Cole.
